Quick question
[edit]Hello, I'm new to the GoCE, and I was just wondering what the deal with citations and such is when copyediting. For example, if you find something that needs citation, do you go and try to look for that citation, or just mark it as needing it and moving on with your copyediting? Or if there are bare URLs, etc. I know it's always nice to do in general, but I'm just wondering. --LichWizard talk 01:51, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
- Welcome, and thanks for your help. Although citation work is good if you have the time and inclination (I routinely fix bare URLs, but generally tag statements requiring citation; see WP:BURDEN), it's beyond the remit of copyediting. There are only so many hours in the day, and WP has WP:NODEADLINE :-). All the best, Miniapolis 13:40, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
- @LichWizard: if you feel a passage should have a citation, you can mark it with the template {{citation needed|April 2018}} or whatever the month happens to be. (That will give other editors an idea of how long it has gone without a citation and whether the passage should be removed at a future date.) Place the template after any punctuation, as you would with a reference. If you want to be more specific than "citation needed", you can find a table of inline cleanup templates at Template:Inline cleanup tags. Hope this helps! – Reidgreg (talk) 23:18, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks @Reidgreg:! I'm not a complete noob to Wikipedia, so I know about citation, templates, and all of that, I was just wondering about the Blitz in particular :P Thanks again for the comment! --LichWizard talk 23:29, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
