Rollover words

[edit]

Where did the instructions for rollover words go? Do I have any?--DThomsen8 (talk) 15:07, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dthomsen8: I see instructions on the main drive page here. The previous drive's rollover words are located here. The link was on the signup page, so it was hard to miss. In particular, it looks like you have 2946 rollover words for the July drive. Best, Pax Verbum 15:26, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Issues=awaiting deletion decision

[edit]

When I place the template {{GOCEreviewed |user=Dthomsen8|date=July 2015|issues=awaiting deletion decision}} on the talk page of an article, and remove the copyedit tag, does that count in the statistics posted here? (Example: San jitsu. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:17, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No - the main drives page says that you should "Only count what you copy edit. Sometimes articles or sections are unsuitable for copy editing or may not need any work. You may decide to remove extant {{copyedit}} tags and take some action like placing {{GOCEreviewed}} on the talk page, redirecting, deleting inappropriate material, reporting suspected copyright violation and so on. Don't count words in articles or sections that you have not copy edited."
If you've placed the GOCEreviewed tag and nominated deletion etc but still copyedited - yes, though the GOCEreviewed tag isn't applicable in this case. Kindest regards, KieranTribe 14:22, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I failed to make myself clear. I did not mean the articles copyedited by individual editors. What I mean by the term "statistics" are the numbers appearing in the "Progress Chart," especially the column "Outstanding Articles." We started with 2228 and now it is up to 2239 because of articles being tagged for copyedit in July.--DThomsen8 (talk) 01:06, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If I am understanding you correctly, removing the copy edit tag on the main article, while placing the GOCEReviewed tag on the talk page, should remove that article from the statistics and make the number drop. I just confirmed this by trying it out with an article from January 2014; after removing the copy edit tag and placing the talk page tag, the total in the statistics did indeed drop. I think our problem is that we are not clearing articles faster than people are adding them! There seems to be a low level of participation in the drive so far, but that might be due to the 4th of July holiday here in the US. Either that, or someone is going copy edit tag happy... -Pax Verbum 02:26, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pax is right. Sometimes the AfC and NPP editors get a bit overzealous, and we have no control over that. All the best, Miniapolis 13:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I started vetting the old months, and I'll continue with that tonight for a while. I think a lot of editors confuse {{copy edit}} with {{cleanup}} and other tags. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:38, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PNR 900 Class

[edit]

PNR 900 Class is only 60 words of text and was tagged for copyedit back in July 2014. I don't see anything to be done. If no comments, I will remove the tag without credit.--DThomsen8 (talk) 23:47, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fine to me in regards to copyediting. Probably someone not realizing that a different tag should have been used, rather than copy edit. What do you think? Perhaps an expand tag? -Pax Verbum 23:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect that improvements were made in the past year, but the tag was not removed. I removed it.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:44, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Expand tag or whatever-the-tag-is-called-saying-that-a-list-should-be-prose? Be Bold! KieranTribe 08:53, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
{{Prose}} is the tag for that :-). All the best, Miniapolis 13:22, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thaaaat's it. I have a .txt somewhere with a list of useful ones (my memory is bad) but I'm not on my laptop at the moment. Urgh. KieranTribe 13:28, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There are hundreds if not thousands of articles about locomotives done just like this one. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:58, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Are there? It looks pretty ugly. Hmm, just my personal opinion and I don't make a habit of editing train articles, so. KieranTribe 17:19, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

() Looks good to this train buff for an article of its type. All the best, Miniapolis 18:00, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Copy editing our job?

[edit]

The article List of musicians from Quebec has the copyediting tag {{copy edit|for=some sections are alphabetized on people's first names instead of their surnames|date=July 2015}} and worse yet, several of the names are redirects. It seems to me that this is not the job of GoCE, but I am unsure what to do. Perhaps this might be Cleanup? --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:01, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, cleanup. Template:Cleanup/doc#Examples even has an example with capitalization. KieranTribe 13:21, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
When using {{Cleanup}}, it's important to fill in the "reason=" parameter or it's useless. All the best, Miniapolis 13:52, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Same reason as above.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:20, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Akhfash's goat

[edit]

I have improved the lede of Akhfash's goat with references and by Wikilink changes, but copyediting is requested for the various versions of the parable, and I do not see what is to be done. Other GoCE members may see how to do the section, which is fairly short, or just be amused by the stories.--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:24, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly basic word order. I'll have a go at it later, since I haven't been doing any copy-editing this July. KieranTribe 11:06, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Go for it!--DThomsen8 (talk) 23:55, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody else did it.--DThomsen8 (talk) 13:42, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Will I be informed about the next month's drive via the mails of GOCE?

Since you're on our mailing list, you'll get a newsletter; we generally publish one at least bimonthly, in coordination with our bimonthly drives (the next one will be in September) or you can check the ombox on our homepage and other GOCE pages. All the best, Miniapolis 13:49, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closing the drive

[edit]

This month-long drive ends in about ten hours. I will not be around to close the drive. To close the drive, a coordinator can remove the HTML comment tags around the "subst" statement at the top of the drive page.

Please make any final edits to your article lists and the leaderboard (it is not updated automatically) within 24 hours after the drive ends. It is OK to edit your section of the page, and the leaderboard, even though the page is archived and says not to edit it. Barnstars will be calculated and distributed one to two days after the drive ends. Thanks, everyone! – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:18, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1937 in Australian literature

[edit]

I removed the copyedit tag from 1937 in Australian literature and added {{GOCEreviewed|user=Dthomsen8|date=July 2015|issues=awaiting references}}, which puts off copyediting, but frankly, I do not see what is to be done to this article at all. Please check it out and tell me if there is something to be done.--DThomsen8 (talk) 17:10, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I could do the same tactic on 1957 Women's British Open Squash Championship, but I think the references are fine, and no copyediting is to be done. Please take a look, soon!--DThomsen8 (talk) 17:40, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You've done almost everything that needs to be done; if the second article doesn't need copyediting, remove the tag. All the best, Miniapolis 23:00, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
