This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Menno Simons
[edit]I would like to collaborate on the Menno Simons article. I have added an infobox and a bibliography stub section. I have also created a category on Wikimedia Commons. Please join me in the effort to improve the article from Start to B-class! Rubenescio (talk) 10:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Graeme Bartlett's administrator candidacy
[edit]A member of the project, Graeme Bartlett, is currently a candidate to receive access to administrative tools. Project members who have worked with the candidate and have an opinion of Graeme Bartlett's fitness to receive these tools are cordially invited to comment. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:26, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
WP 1.0 bot announcement
[edit]This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:20, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Bot which automatically updates unreferenced biography of living persons daily
[edit]Hello wikiproject, I requested a bot which will update unreferenced living people (BLPs) daily. User talk:Betacommand is willing to create this bot. Since you already have a /Unreferenced BLPs page, this shows your project really cares about this issue.
I just need a list of projects who would like to test this bot. Please let me know here if your project would like to do this. Thank you Okip (the new and improved Ikip) 19:57, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Dutch people
[edit]A Request for Comments which may be of interest to this Wikiproject is waiting for your input at Talk:Dutch people#RfC on how to define the Dutch as an ethnic group, and what to include. Fram (talk) 07:07, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Friesland articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
[edit]Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Friesland articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Hi Frieslanders The paragraph at the end of this Boksum article looks really dodgy to me. I'm not going to cut it because I know nothing about the topic, and you never know it might be real - but it has all the marks of being someone's little joke to me. Maybe you guys could check it? Machina.sapiens (talk) 09:29, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
- removed, thankyou. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Name confusion?
[edit]Hi. I fully support this project, but wonder if it should be renamed WikiProject Frisia? In English, as the project introduction implies, Friesland normally just refers to the Dutch province, whereas the whole coastal area inhabited by the various Frisian-speaking peoples is called Frisia. It's only in the German language that Friesland refers to both the Dutch province and the whole area. Just a thought. --Bermicourt (talk) 16:20, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- I support that move. After all it's one of the project's scopes to include all Frisians, not just those from the province. And while we are at it, in the case of renaming let's use this unofficial all-Frisian flag for project templates. De728631 (talk) 20:10, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- We could then still have a Portal:Friesland similar to the East Frisian page set up by Bermicourt. De728631 (talk) 13:52, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- I don't mind if the name changes back to Fisia. But I would think that renaming all uses of the template would be a waste of time. Last time there this debate was on there was about 4 different opinions. (3rd alternative Frisians, 4th Fryslan). So how about we have a new set of templates that don't just refer to the province in the Netherlands, and keep the old name of the project for a redirect to Wikipedia:WikiProject Frisia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:20, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I was also thinking about moving all project sites with redirect. But we can also move the templates to their new names with redirects and then just change the icons and links in the talk page tag and the userbox template. That's an act of a few minutes and won't require changing any content on an article talk page. De728631 (talk) 14:09, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Happy with that and I agree that the Dutch "Friesland" and other sub-divisions could have their own portals. I have discovered that there is a West Friesland portal nearly completed on Dutch Wikipedia which could be a start. Unfortunately I speak German, but not Dutch! (okay, so some would say I speak "double Dutch"!) --Bermicourt (talk) 15:35, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- OK, then I'm going to move the project pages and templates. De728631 (talk) 19:30, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Done. I have asked Arbitrarily0 to update the article assessment tags with their bot. De728631 (talk) 21:36, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- OK, then I'm going to move the project pages and templates. De728631 (talk) 19:30, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Rottumeroog is selected as article for improvement
[edit]The article Rottumeroog, which is in the scope of this project, was selected by the WikiProject Netherlands as the article for improvement in May 2014. Our ambitious goal is to improve the article to good article quality. You are invited to contribute to the article. – Editør (talk) 14:07, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Related portals
[edit]Should we add a section with links to any related portals such as Portal:East Frisia to the project page? --Bermicourt (talk) 08:41, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, by all means. I always considered Portal:East Frisia a part of the project anyways. I'm going to dedicate a section to it on the main project page. De728631 (talk) 08:47, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
- Cool. Well done/Gut gemacht! --Bermicourt (talk) 15:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
Buorren
[edit]Rambling at random, I read Protestant church of Goutum. The last sentence is problematic:
- The building is located on the Buorren 23.
The "on" makes it seem as if Buorren means "highway" or something like it.
But fy:Buorren (doarp)'s "English" link leads to neighbourhood, and doarp must be cognate to English "thorp" and German "Dorf", so I would guess that buorren is cognate to "borough" and "Burg". Then Buorren 23 would be a district, and good English idiom would use "in", not "on":
- The building is located in Buorren (District) 23.
or
- The building is located in District 23.
There are about eight English Wikipedia pages that mention "Buorren". One way to clear them up would be to put the translation in parentheses, as in the first example above. Another would be to link to "Buorren", if there were such an article—but I doubt that it would pass WP:Notability. However, if a Frisian-speaker were to add fy:wikt:buorren to it Fryske Wikiwurdboek, with a link to wikt:neighborhood (or wikt:district or whatever is the best translation), that article would then be linked from the English Wiktionary article on the English word. Then you could wikilink the word "Buorren" in the English Wikipedia articles to the West Frisian definition in English Wiktionary.
--Thnidu (talk) 04:48, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Or is it just an address? Is Buorren the road name and 23 the the house number in the usual continental order? --Bermicourt (talk) 06:33, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- It could be. Map, anybody? --Thnidu (talk) 20:42, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- It sounds very like an address to me. Usually you would see the village name followed by a number, rather than the street. The cities would have the street as well though. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:26, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- OK, if you look at https://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=53.1785&mlon=5.8068&zoom=15#map=17/53.17962/5.80586 you can see that Buorren is the name of the roughly east-west street in the village. It connects Goutumerdijk to Tearnserdijk. Also at http://watwaswaar.nl/#c8-v6-8-eY-1v-1-----4OH is an old map, where you can see it amoungst less streets, but unfortunately this street is not named. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:01, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- From the first map you link to, that looks almost certain to be an address. So I have changed the structure of the phrase to match English structure for addresses.--Thnidu (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
[edit]Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
[edit]Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

MfD nomination of Portal:East Frisia
[edit]Portal:East Frisia, a portal which is directly relevant to this project, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:East Frisia. Editors are free to edit the content of Portal:East Frisia during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. --Bermicourt (talk) 18:22, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
[edit]The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
[edit]On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 10:57, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
East Frisia project activity
[edit]Hi, I'm still active and interested in improving and expanding this topic. Bermicourt (talk) 17:47, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi there. I'm semi-active, but I'm still interested in the project, too. De728631 (talk) 22:29, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
I write about one new article a year in the project's field of interest, and I have many pages on my watchlist for checking. I still tag appropriate pages for the project. Though this is mostly west Frisia. I am not interested in "portal" space though, as people read articles. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:39, 22 September 2019 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
[edit]I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon
[edit]Hello WikiProject Frisia:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!
