2015 WWC shutout streak?
There was a lot of press on the US shutout streak going into the final, and it shows up in a number of articles here, but there doesn't seem to be consensus on whether it was 539 minutes or 540 minutes (there's been some editing back and forth between the two numbers), and whether it beat Germany's streak in 2007 or not. From the sources I've seen, it seems like the media consensus is that it baaaarely didn't beat Germany, but 539 and 540 are thrown around pretty interchangeably. The wiki articles seem to be sitting at 540 right now, but have gone back and forth a few times. I like my encyclopedias consistent, but I'm not really sure what to do/where to ask this and don't want to start an edit war. It seems like this is a place where people might have ideas? (I'm new-ish to editing)
On the subject of timed goals in soccer, here's a relevant wiki article on fastest goals.
News reports mentioning the streak (in vague/rough/biased order of perceived reliability):
- FIFA match report (540, no mention of Germany)[1]
- Equalizer Soccer (540, tie with Germany)[2]
- ESPNW (539, didn't beat Germany) [3]
- US Soccer (540, tie) [4]
- Washington Post liveblog (embedded tweets from Dan Lauletta of Equalizer Soccer - 6 seconds short) [5]
- SportsonEarth (539, didn't beat Germany) [6]
- SBNation (no number, didn't beat Germany) [7]
a couple wiki pages mentioning the streak:
(as a personal sidenote, I think the streak is impressive, but the 2007/2015 comparison is misleading because the Germany went scoreless in an entire 6-game tournament, and their WWC streak extended into 2003/2011, while it was a 7 game tournament for the US this year.) - FIFA gives both goals against in the 27th minute. Based on that and that there are other sources confirming that I'd give them a 540 minute streak. Going by seconds (they are 6 seconds short) is pretty strange, as the additional time of matches (probably up to 15 minutes in 6 matches) isn't accounted for anyway. -Koppapa (talk) 07:22, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input! That was basically what I was thinking, too (precision without accuracy is misleading and counting the 6 seconds is strange). The next question is more what to do about mentions of the "record" - I'm inclined to just strip mention of it and just keep the number (which seems sufficiently notable to me on its own?), so, for example, the final game's article would say something to the effect of "Yūki Ōgimi's goal in the twenty-seventh minute ended a 540 minute United States streak of not conceding a goal." ? first division leagues?
Is there a specific criteria for being a "first division league" (what the table on the main task force page lists), or is it just top division? There are a number of leagues which aren't listed there - see, for example, most of the leagues listed in Template:AFC women's leagues. I'm totally cool with there being a cutoff in that table for size/professionalism/etc, but wanted to check what it was. Cleancutkid (talk) 03:44, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- There isn't. And space wise, we probably could just include the templates. -Koppapa (talk) 05:55, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Cleancutkid: I changed "first" to "top" for clarity on the main project page. Feel free to add other relevant leagues. Hmlarson (talk) 18:35, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

"Women are everywhere"
Hi, I'm an editor of the Italian Wikipedia. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks,--Kenzia (talk) 07:17, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
