I would suggest that we create a comprehensive History of breakfast article. The whole subject will then gain a "backbone" which other breakfast articles can relate (if possible), and will probably be taken more seriously by other editors. So many food related projects seem to descend into trivia/POV attempted advertising/futile lists, etc with poor or non-existent cites. The ignorance around some food related topics is rather scary on WP. The Medieval cuisine and similar article(s) seem to avoid that. I would suggest this is a good place to start to give the project some weight, by developing an historical perspective that is academically solid. It could be broken down by region. Europe, Asia, etc. Irondome (talk) 00:18, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
I support this notion. Here are some sources to start with, culled from some initial searches:
  • History of breakfast:
  • History of breakfast cereal
Also, some information could potentially be used from the Breakfast article. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:41, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
There are also some excellent chapters in the "Oxford Symposium of Food and Cookery" annual reports on papers delivered. A specific article covers the medical professions' extremely hostile view to breakfast during the med/early modern period in Europe. Many of the articles are highly relevant from a world-view of the meal known in the West as breakfast. Our Western view of "breakfast" may be unconsciously skewing the articles a bit I suspect. I would like to see sections on "Breakfast in Asia" etc. as part of the proposed breakfast history article. Will try to isolate some links. All the papers are free to view in their entirity on googlebooks by year. Irondome (talk) 02:30, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Good idea. In addendum to the topics suggested above, another topic that would also fall under the article's scope is the tradition of Suhoor (that Muslims observe during the fasting month of Ramadan) - namely, the meal eaten early in the morning before sunrise, following which no food is consumed until evening. On a side note, now that I look at it, the Suhoor article itself is currently a stub in a rather unfortunate condition. The breakfast article is heavily Euro-centric btw and says nothing about it. I hope an article on the History of breakfast won't suffer from similiar biases. Mar4d (talk) 08:45, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
    • I'm having a dream of a webfirst. The first world-wide historical overview of the meal known as "breakfast" thats out there :). It has lots of potential Irondome (talk) 23:46, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Cool project

I do not want to join as a member, but this is a really cool WikiProject! Breakfast articles are very important. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:32, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Cleanup Listing

Should we request that this project be added to User:Svick/WikiProject cleanup listingRyan Vesey 00:31, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Having an "articles for clean-up" section would be great. Go for it! Northamerica1000(talk) 02:38, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
Have you used the listing before? It will be pretty nice once it gets added (and will probably be where I'll be able to spend most of my time with this project). I'm leaving the request now. Ryan Vesey 02:41, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
I've never requested this before, but would like to learn about the process for future reference. It may be functional to just have a cleanup listing box (E.g. - see the box at the right at Wikipedia:WikiProject Environment#Tasks and things to do), rather than a long list of articles as I've seen at some projects. Maypo photo

Someone needs to purchase a box of Maypo and take a picture of the product... I've found a copy of an ad from a magazine in 1976 online, no copyright notice, therefore in the PD. I can't find any free pictures on Flickr or via Google of the cereal itself... Oaktree b (talk) 03:10, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Not having much luck with milk toast photos either. Found a few old recipes for it, not free pictures... Oaktree b (talk) 20:16, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Did you know - coffee lower prices?

According to the Seattle Times "Starbucks lowers prices on bagged coffee at grocers" after "In recent months, global coffee prices have fallen more than 50 percent year-over-year"? [2] Ottawahitech (talk) 04:41, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Invitations to join this project

I have posted invitations to join in a couple of country-specific wikiprojects. It would be great if we could get some help from wikipedians who belong to different nationalities (I am speculating most members here are from English speaking nations?).

But it suddenly dawned on me that the invitation template I was using does not stress the importance of participation by people of diverse national backgrounds. Any ideas? Ottawahitech (talk) 23:33, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps consider adding a personal note to accompany the invitations you send out. Northamerica1000(talk) 03:50, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

Greetings from a new member

Hi there, I was told that one one only needs to add one name to the list to join this project, so I have done so. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 05:28, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

wpbf mentioned in a Signpost article by one of the interviewees

Just happened to notice that someone mentioned this WikiProject here. Ottawahitech (talk) 23:15, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi there

Hi, I just thought I would let folk know that I have not been totally inactive regarding the concerns of this WikiProject - I left a message on the article on breakfast cereal, on its talk page. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 21:19, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

The article is getting a little make-over. Please join in. I have replaced images with brighter, larger, more professional looking photos and am planning to expand prose to include a recipe and images of cooking or prep.--Amadscientist (talk) 03:01, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
