Scientific Classification of Plants
I'm confused as to which reference manual/site was used to classify Plants (and possibly animals).
For example: Lilium Lilies shows underneath the heading "Scientific Classification": Kingdom: Plantae ; (unranked):Angiosperm ; (unranked): Monocots; Order: Liliales family:Liliaceae subfamily:Lilioideae genus:Lilium
I think this article and countless other plants articles have mistakes/errs. There are empty classification headings, Err/incorrect classifications, and I'm not sure but possibly unecessary classification categories added.
Using the Lilium Lilies article as an example, the empty classification heading shown as: (unranked): Angiosperm is one: not filled in and two: incorrect. The classification would be (Division/Phylum) and the correct Division/Phylum would be, according to USDA[1], Magnoliophyta – Flowering plants

The reason I bring this up is because the accepted classification for plants is based upon Linnaeus's Systema Naturae. I've seen some articles reference the International Association for Plant Toxonomy, they follow that system, which a similiar classification system is used for the other 8 Kingdoms, yet articles are still either mislabeled, misinformed or completely incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.77.62.38 (talk) 21:56, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Regional foods categorisation

WikiProject Poultry
Article "Cyperus rotundus" might need some quality check
Quoting the article: "Some part of the plant was eaten by humans at some point in ancient history."
this article might at some point have been written by humans in ancient wiki history
and could urgently use some serious quality check...

- I took a very quick pass at the article. The opening sentence was out of whack and there was a heading right before the opening sentence, which is never done. I took a whack at the headings, but I don't care enough about the subject to do a thorough copyedit. Look at the review and why it was rejected: it reads like an essay and doesn't appear to be NPOV. Make sure there is no opinion in the prose (unless it is sourced, and then mark it as such), and make sure every claim is backed up by a reliable, verifiable reference. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 12:54, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Frεcklεfσσt, for taking a look at this. By editing the draft you have postponed its deletion for six months. I presume since you took the time to improve it that you believe that the topic itself would make a good article. I have had plenty of experience with whipping improperly written articles into shape, but, lacking knowledge of the food industry, I want to make sure that the topic is suitable and not already covered elsewhere, so that I don't waste my time. There are about 3,000 of these abandoned drafts every month (Category:G13 eligible AfC submissions), so I have to pick and choose which ones to "rescue". —Anne Delong (talk) 13:50, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

- Well, quite a number of them are obviously hopeless, and there are several other people checking them besides me. Still, a lot of them go unchecked because there are so many. Looking for help updating the South Beach Diet article
Hello, I have been working on behalf of the folks at the South Beach Diet to improve the diet's article. I've prepared a new draft, which can be found in my userspace and is described in more detail on the article's Talk page here. I will not be making any direct edits myself due to my COI, so if an editor from this WikiProject could take some time to review what I've prepared, I'd appreciate it. Whiskey reviews
Flagging this here as WikiProject Spirits seems to be dead: SPA account User:Kalexander11 added twenty or so "Expert Reviews" sections across a bunch of big-name whiskey articles last week, each time adding a single tasting quote from a cookbook which had been published the day before. Although this sounded like the quack of a WP:COI editor, the edits were defended on Talk:Old Forester as being better than nothing, with an uninvolved editor apparently objecting to their removal, but not their replacement. If any whiskey connoisseurs are reading, these articles could use some better review quotes. --McGeddon (talk) 12:56, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- The SPA account added some trite quote from a person and a book to lots of whisky articles. I call the quotes trite because in my opinion, they are casual opinions which do not reflect upon the history of the whisky. Neither the person quoted nor the book cited are well known enough to be able to speak for so many whiskies in so casual a way. All of these edits should be reverted. Thoughts from others? Suggestions for Editing Spam (food) page
Hello my name is Kathy! I am a part of a project group consisting of three other members (Linda, Maggie, Tiffany). We are from Cornell University, and intend to edit the Spam (food) page as a class assignment for INFO 3460. We noticed that the Spam (food) page is rated as a C-Class article in WikiProject Food and Drink. We hope to improve the article to a B-Class ranking or higher. We were also wondering why the page is rated B-Class in WikiProject Hawaii. My group members and I have proposed a list of changes to the article on the Spam (food) talk page along with a list of potential sources, we would really value your feedback and ideas. Specific questions we have include what additional sections would be valuable to the article? Should a separate section in regards to production of Spam be created, and would this be different from the section regarding its history? If this is the case how should the information on International Usage be presented? If there are any specific resources, advice, or Wikipedians who can help that would be greatly appreciated. - I also think this is best discussed on the article's talk page. In answer to one question, though: article ratings come from WikiProjects, and different Wikiprojects might look at different aspects of the articles for quality. - To be more specific about ratings, article class ratings are inherently based on the same set of standards with Projects adding their own set of specifics on top. Article importance ratings are solely based on Project specific ratings. E.g., Serbian cuisine is a low priority article for this Project but WikiProject Serbia would rate it as high priority because of its importance to Serbian culture. When rating for class, especially for WP:Good Article and WP:Featured Article status, the set of criteria is based on the scales (FA and GA) established by the WP Community. Projects such as WP:WikiProject Biographies or WP:WikiProject Military will sometimes add additional parameters on top of the community wide class standards.
