WP 1.0 bot announcement
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:18, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Retained firefighter referred to as just "retained"
Hi. I need some support at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Retain (disambiguation) and people, JHunterJ in particular, thinking a retained firefighter is not also referred to soley as "retained" and, therefore, worthy of inclusion on Retain (disambiguation). Thanks. —Eekerz (t) 06:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Missing topics
Can you have a look at this fire-related section of one of my missing topics lists - Skysmith (talk) 13:44, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
Long Beach Fire Department; New York vs. California
Could somebody do an article on the Long Beach(California) Fire Department(http://www.longbeach.gov/fire/)? An article for the Long Beach Fire Department (New York) already exists, but somebody foolishly renamed it without the state. ----DanTD (talk) 15:30, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- We can move it back over the redirect once a Long Beach CA article is written. Jclemens (talk) 16:17, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
It seems there is not much being done to fix this article, there are several issues, most related to poorly referenced material, some synthetic material and poor noun choice. I am adopting this article and if you are interested in a mini task force, feel free to help. I am using as a reference the NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION's report, the MISSISSIPPI STATE RATING BUREAU report, and contemporary newspaper reports as references, as and when available.
First step, which will undoubtedly bring helpful attention is to move the article to Rhythm Club fire the Rhythm Club was a Dance hall rather than a Night Club: per NFPA report "DANCE HALL FIRE (RHYTHM CLUB)" ; MISSISSIPPI STATE RATING BUREAU report "The Natchez Dance Hall Holocaust" and illustration captioned as "Layout of the Natchez, Mississippi, Rhythm Club; and newspaper articles referring to it as "the Rhythm Club" and as a "dance hall". I can find no contemporaneous reports referring to it as the "Rhythm Night Club" as a name or as a "night club" or "nightclub" as a descriptive term.
Failing any discussion to the contrary, I will move the article later today as a noncontroversial move. If there are any objections, please discuss them here, or if you prefer, as a message on my talk page.
Secondly, the description of the fire's details and progress do not exactly accord with references, of which there is only one cited, the NFPA report.
Third, there are some mild NPOV issues I will correct.
Fourth, the fire's progress, cause and the resulting fire code changes which are what makes this incident encyclopedically relevant will get a thorough treatment.
Lastly, there are no illustrations or pictures. I will produce a floor plan of the building, and accompany that with an accurate narrative.
If anyone wants to help me take this on, please go ahead, or discuss with me so we can collaborate or work on separate issues as you desire. User:Pedant (talk) 19:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Fire service articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Fire service articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Sunday, November 14th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of November, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!
If you have already provided feedback, we deeply appreciate it. For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 16:32, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

1978 Holiday Inn fire and North Division Street explosion. Both articles are multiple fatality fires, but both articles could also certainly stand improvement and sourcing. Jclemens (talk) 04:07, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
