Phoenician vs Egyptian

I wonder if somebody can help with this. This is the Empress Theatre (Montreal). Is it Phonenician or Egyptian style:

What is our goal, what are we doing to achieve it ?

I am not sure if this project is active anymore, the participants work individually on different things but no collaboration or discussion is done in connection with the Project. What is our Goal and what are we doing to achieve it? Who is still active participant of this project?--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 04:31, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:15, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Photo request

Would someone mind photographing the Egyptair head office near Cairo Airport? The article needs an image of the Egyptair head office. Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 11:56, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

Help the new Luna Park, Cairo article!

I have just moved the beginning of a Luna Park, Cairo article into articlespace. It's essentially a stub about the park and the World War I hospital, but I couldn't find much about the park's grounds, etc., after 1916. Perhaps if we can get that 84-year gap bridged in the article with local sources, this will turn out to be a decent article - clearly both the park and the hospital make this article worthwhile. Thanks. B.Wind (talk) 01:33, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

When I found this article it was being used to WP:COATRACK attack sections on arabs/muslims, and some of the sources used did not ( and maybe still don't) pass muster IMO. I've cleaned it up a bit & added headings, moved sections and tried balance it. Can someone else have a look and an arabic reader check the sources from nadir gemayel & lebanese forces? I don't edit regularly so it would be good if more people keep an eye/watchlist this, thanks. --Glumboot (talk) 12:23, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Egypt/Archive 5/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Egypt/Archive 5/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:03, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for joining. I see only one entry now. DASHBOT only examines already articles already tagged with your wikiproject template, it does NOT tag new articles. If your project is ever interested in tagging more articles with a bot, please see: Category talk:WikiProject tagging bots Okip 05:10, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

To WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I think YOU made an ERROR, calling BAHARIYA "The least developed technological Oasis in EGYPT". I was there in 1976 with a group of German teachers from Munich. We were GUESTS of the EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT who took us on a tour of many parts of Egypt. We were impressed by the SCHOOLS, TEACHERS and STUDENTS! They were more advanced than many other SCHOOLS I've seen on MY TRIPS AROUND THE WORLD. Also, YOU forgot to mention one important FACT. There is also the "LARGEST IRON ORE MINE of EGYPT". We visited the mine and there many RUSSIAN ADVISORS who helped the Egyptian miners with their work. Dean Beethoven79 (talk) 08:01, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons update

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Egypt/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 90 articles to be referenced, a 1.1% reduction from last week. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 18:01, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

New article for your project

Hey guys, I translated this page from the Arabic wiki and I added more info about it as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Metwalli_Aharawi

please feel free to add more about it. --Saab 1989 (talk) 01:46, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Mohamed Mounir

I re-wrote the high-importance start class article on Mohamed Mounir from scratch, as the previously existing article was poorly referenced and was largely plagiarized. It remains incomplete, but could someone please provide feedback on whats been done so far (and if possible, to expand upon it)? --Voiceofplanet (talk) 21:51, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

The article on Arish is badly outdated and just plain wrong. There is no marina and there is only one hotel that could possibly rank in the luxury basis, with some debate on the latter issue. The information about the university is misleading too - no reference is given to the new private Sinai university, which is the predominant university in town. I live in Arish and be happy to work on the editing but will need someone to talk me through the editing process as this is my first experience on Wikipedia other than a reader (and as a donor). 6th of October Bridge Article -- Why so patronizing?

I know it sounds weird, but I was just reading the 6th of October Bridge stub and the whole article has a sarcastic/patronizing tone that you would not expect in an article about a bridge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ndajani (talkcontribs) 04:40, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

A new user needs help with the article Sohag

Hi, I've come here for WikiProject Egypt's help. I'm a recent changes patroller, and so routinely come to edit pages on which I have little or no knowledge. One page I found while perusing was Sohag. I have been making some edits there, trying to keep the page neutral and as encyclopedic as possible (i.e., no puffery, no unnecessarily detailed information, etc.). One major problem with the article, as is often the case with articles about smaller cities from non-English speaking countries, is the extreme lack of sources. I commented on this on the talk page, and the primary author, User:Ahmadpontymageed came to me and asked for my help with improving the article. While I'm more than happy to help with copy-editing and making sure the article follows policy, I have no subject knowledge of Egyptian cities and no knowledge of how to find sources. Ahmadpontymageed has stated that he also does not know where to find sources. I've explained (and, once I finish here, will explain again on my talk page) that Wikipedia always has to follow sources--that even though the he has first-hand knowledge of the town as a resident, and has edited another wiki (Wikivoyage) with to add interesting information, Wikipedia's WP:V policy absolutely requires all information be sourced. So I'm hoping that Wikiproject Egypt could help him improve this article, search for sources, do translations, etc. I'll certainly keep watching the page and giving input when I can, but I figure that all of you will be more helpful with the fundamental work of getting good, reliably sourced info into the article. I thank you in advance for your help. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:54, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

There is a lot of info in the book Rough guide to Egypt - Page 322 Should provide the main info for the article. Another one about Monasticism is Egypt By Michael Haag. Hope it helps--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 07:13, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I added info from both of those sources. If anyone else has more suggestions, we'd certainly welcome them.Qwyrxian (talk) 02:20, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Egypt articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Egypt articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

The article on former Finance minster Muhammad Hassanein has been tagged as an unreferenced BLP since December 2008, the current focus month of the BLP rescue Project. I have tried, and failed, to find any reliable sources for this article, so I'm posting here in case a member of this Project might like to take an interest and help source the article. Or PROD it if sources can't be found.--Plad2 (talk) 21:13, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

The article Ahmed Abdel Haye Kira has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references found no published (gBooks) references for this subject, fails WP:N and WP:V

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jeepday (talk) 13:52, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Sinai shark attacks

May be of interest to this project. I've proposed a merge of Egyptian shark attacks conspiracy theory to 2010 Sharm el-Sheikh shark attacks and have started a discussion on the later's talk page (there's something of a parallel discussion on the conspiracy theory page, but best to keep it in the target article).Bali ultimate (talk) 19:26, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello all. The physicist J. B. Gunn has a WikiProject Egypt banner on his talk page, but I don't really think it belongs there. He was born in Cairo, to British parents, and left before the age of two. As far as I know, he never returned, spending the rest of his life in England, Canada and the US. I thought it polite to ask here before removing the banner - does anyone mind if I do? GyroMagician (talk) 18:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I think it's fine if u remove it. Thank you for your politeness.Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 21:20, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
