Revisit the decision

[edit]

Hi there, I was wondering if we could revisit the decision to create this wikiproject. Since the first try, the project has gained a lot of momentum. See the campaign on the wikidashboard: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/campaigns/southern_african_music__sound/programs Viljowf (talk) 05:26, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Viljowf: I would suggest carrying out the activities you are planning as part of an existing wikiproject (perhaps Wikipedia:WikiProject Music?) – Joe (talk) 07:14, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can I please appeal this decision? I've gone through the requirements for Wikiproject, and our project qualifies. Viljowf (talk) 07:21, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't my decision; like anything on Wikipedia, the creation of a WikiProject requires a consensus of editors. I closed your proposal here because after three months nobody but yourself had indicated they were interested in this wikiproject. Even if that were not the case, we've learned from long experience that most new wikiprojects fail, especially ones as niche as this. Instead campaigns like yours are much more likely to succeed when embedded in a larger and more established interest group, like WP Music. You can choose to ignore this advice and create a new wikiproject if you want, but if like most new wikiprojects it ends up dying, it will just create work for someone else down the line (deprecating tags, archiving project pages, etc.) – Joe (talk) 07:57, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I understand. Thanks for the explanation. We are planning a long-term project, so this shouldn't be a problem. Viljowf (talk) 08:16, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, so does everyone... – Joe (talk) 16:34, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
