Commonwealth Games WikiProject Proposal

I invite WikiProject Commonwealth members to signup to support a Proposed Commonwealth Games WikiProject. The Commonwealth Games series of articles are much in need of attention. The first task of this project would be to standardise article, template and category naming and to format all existing results and medal tables using Template:MedalistTable and Template:RankedMedalTable for example. Additionally an audit of the results is needed - as an example many of the swimming results show mm:ss and should show mm:ss.00 in the time column. Add your support here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Commonwealth Games. Yboy83 (talk) 11:37, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:10, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Assistance required at Monarchy of Canada

There is presently a dipute going on at Talk:Monarchy of Canada regarding a particular sentence in the article. There are only two or three editors involved and progress seems, well... unlikely, at the moment. Some additional input would be appreciated. Cheers, --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 01:57, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Several maps of the Empire up for deletion

FYI, several maps of the British Empire have been nominated for deletion, see Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2010 March 14.

Monarchy of Canada (again)

I am making here an appeal for help at Monarchy of Canada, where both more opinion and enforcement is needed before Hell breaks any more loose than it already has. --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 20:07, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

FYI, {{Commonwealth military ranks}} has been nominated for deletion. 65.94.253.16 (talk) 06:20, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Template:Commonwealth portal

FYI {{Commonwealth portal}} has been nominated for deletion. 70.29.210.155 (talk) 04:53, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Now replaced with {{portal|Commonwealth}}. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:41, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Merge with WikiProject British Empire

Should WP:WikiProject British Empire be merged here? That project is inactive, and the topic is the historical predecessor and partial overlapping sister organization to the Commonwealth. The name might need to be expanded to WP:WikiProject Commonweath and British Empire.

I suggest a merge since that project is tagged as inactive, and because of the overlap and being historically related.

70.29.212.131 (talk) 06:22, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Ha... it's kind of funny considering that the Empire project was born from a similar suggestion. I don't believe it should be merged. There is plenty of room for both to operate. The problem with WP:WikiProject British Empire is that the topic is massive and a lot of the most dedicated editors to the subject never signed up. I think it could live again. --- MichiganCharms (talk) 22:09, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually, on second thought, maybe a merger is for the best? The membership overlap is so high and the scope of this project has been expanded enough since the Empire project was launched that it could work. - MichiganCharms (talk) 22:27, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Strongly oppose. The two subjects aren't particularly related. The overlap in the membership of editors is primarily due to this project previously having been called 'WikiProject Commonwealth realms'. Under its current objective, to improve coverage of the Commonwealth itself, few of the editors listed above are actually active, as suggested by the irrelevance of the areas they've listed themselves as being interested in. Bastin 22:29, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
I'd note that since the Commonwealth is, at it's core, an evolved form of the British Empire, there is still a lot of overlap there. --MichiganCharms (talk) 23:44, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
The contents of the WikiProjects are unrelated, with perhaps only articles related to the military history of the Commonwealth belonging to both. That is a very small subsection. Bastin 00:01, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose - The subjects aren't related; the Commonwealth is nothing like the British Empire. --Ħ MIESIANIACAL 16:45, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose. As others have pointed out, the two projects are different enough to make a merge seemingly unhelpful. It is true that currently the British Empire project doesn't seem to be very active, but I am going to join and see if I can gradually get it started up again and continue the good work that has already been done. Antarctic-adventurer (talk) 18:46, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose Two diffrent related projects is not a good combo, the wikiproject does have some things going for it, I see some FA acrticles over there. It just needs new members is all - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:47, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Comment This merge debate has been going on for two months now, seeing all I see are oppose consensus I wil lremove the merge tags now if nobody has issue with it. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:50, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Multi-sport events' Commonwealth Games taskforce

Hi, WikiProject Multi-sport events, which was set up on 8 October, currently intends to set up a Commonwealth Games taskforce under the project. As your WikiProject is highly related in this regard, we would love to hear your views and opinions on the matter. Cheers, ANGCHENRUI WP:MSE 10:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Well, it seems to have passed the poll for creation at MSE. Does anyone want to help in creating this task force? (Perhaps it can be double flagged? {{WikiProject Commonwealth|Games=yes}} and {{WikiProject Multi-sport events|Commonwealth=yes}} 76.66.203.138 (talk) 05:42, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Not the former. We can't have {{WikiProject Commonwealth|Games=yes}} and {{WikiProject Multi-sport events|Commonwealth=yes}} at the same time. Two taskforces that deal with the exact same topic? Nope. So just {{WikiProject Multi-sport events|Commonwealth=yes}}. ANGCHENRUI WP:MSE 08:00, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it does happen, just look at {{WPJAPAN}}, where several task forces are double flagged, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Japanese military history task force being {{WPJAPAN|milhist=yes}} as well as {{WPMILHIST|Japanese=yes}} The task force itself lies under WPMILHIST, but flagging occurs on both templates, the WPJAPAN template is optional, the WPMILHIST template is required for tagging articles. 76.66.203.138 (talk) 14:09, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
