Yearly update

[edit]

On each of the pages above, add a new page for the upcoming year.

Then copy the format from the previous year's page for each.

(At some point I'll create "blanks" for each, to make the updating easier. - jc37 00:17, 18 November 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Happy New Year

[edit]

This starts our new notice board. It was moved to this page due to capitalisation (Board/board), and to keep the edit history of the old noticeboard intact, since in the past items were directly added to the noaticeboard, instead of through transclusion per the current system.

In the future, all that will be required is to create the new year's pages for transclusion, and update the transclusion links.

Enjoy, and happy new year : ) - jc37 01:26, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi jc37. Looks good. Can you add {{Shortcut|WP:CMC/NB|WP:CMC/BOARD}} to this page? I've redirected the redirects already. : ) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:38, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Equipment of Batman Merge

[edit]

nomination-I am posing a mega merge to provide a parent article for the minimally populated stubbed articles of multiple versions of Bat-equipment listed here. I pose that the articles of Bat-laser, Bat-monitor, Bat phone, Batrope, Bat-cuffs, Batboat, Batman's subway rocket, Bat-grenades, Bat-bolas and Grapnel gun all be merged into a newly created article Equipment of Batman. The articles posed for merge are either orphaned, stubs with little room for growth and or do not satisfy the guideline of Wikipedia:Fiction. Versus outright deletion and as a merge to Batman's equipment section would likely result an equipment article breaking off, the article could be merged into this new article. In addtition, I pose that portions or summaries of Batmobile, Batarang, Batsuit, ect, be included to better encompass all of the Bat tools. - 66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:57, 8 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

The articles about Batman's vehicles are long enough as they already are. Why in the hell do they have to be merged along with the handheld gadgets? If you want to merge anything, then place them in the "Batman's utility belt" section. TMC1982 10:53 p.m., 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Oops, I didn't look closely. Don't merge the Batmobile or any of the vehicles, just the equipment articles. -Freak104 (talk) 16:11, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comment-In the proposal, I recommend that summaries of the vehicles be mention, as vehichel are in utilized by Batman, and are identified as such in the Batman article's equiment section. Large vehicles such as the Batmobile and plane need not be include due to their size; however, Batsled should be, I have proposed Batboat as well, but discussion can help to better discern the that article's inclusion.-66.109.248.114 (talk) 20:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]
  • Neutral Comment - To consider this discussion "valid", I would like the nominator to list/clarify what articles are specifically intended to be under discussion for merger, and any suggestions for the merger target. - jc37 04:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I wikified the nomination above. Are there any others that should be under discussion? - jc37 04:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
response:- merges-Bat-laser, Bat-monitor, Bat phone, Batrope, Bat-cuffs, Batman's subway rocket, Bat-grenades, Bat-bolas and Grapnel gun. questionable I also nominated Batboat; however, I would like discussion to lead whether a full merger or just an summarized incorporation would be more benifitial. not merged- Batmobile, Batplane, Utility belt, and Batsuit all have brief summaries with links to those larger main pages, to provide a complete view of equipment used by the Bat-man. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 19:43, 12 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]
I think the suggestion for transition the merge, to the proposal of jc37 is a good one, I would suggest grapnel gun merge with utility belt. Bat phone, I recommend, in this new purposal be merged with Batman (TV series) and/or hotline. - 66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:44, 18 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Bat-laser, Batrope, Bat-cuffs, Bat-grenades and Bat-bolas merged into Batman's utility belt. I'd like to point out that virtually all of the articles mentioned for merge here rely on the same 3 or 4 sources, which in turn appear to be fan collections and suffer from severe, almost terminal, in-universe perspective. Pairadox (talk) 03:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

grapnel gun merged per discussion - 66.109.248.114 (talk) 00:47, 29 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

That leaves Bat-monitor, Bat phone, Batboat, and Batman's subway rocket yet to do. Pairadox (talk) 04:07, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bat-monitor merged per discussion. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:46, 4 February 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Those left then, in order:

  • Bat-monitor to Batsuit (which has apparently been done...)
  • Bat phone - I think we should leave it separate. Though the term may have originally stemmed from the TV series, it's taken on new meaning.
  • Batboat - I think this article is developed enough to not be merged with anything else. Besides, unless we create some arbitrarily named page, there's no good place to merge it anyway.
  • Batman's subway rocket - The more I look at this, the more I think this should just be merged to Batmobile. Land-based, 4-wheeled, bat-themed car-like vehicle. It has track wheels instead of tires, and (like so many of the other batmobiles) a different propulsion system. Seems like an easy merge to me.

Have we missed any? - jc37 10:44, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Subway rocket to Batmobile seems like a good merge to me as well. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC).[reply]
Ok, merged. - jc37 19:19, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That seems to be everything. Good job everyone. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 22:36, 20 February 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Equipment of the Batmobile

[edit]

Is this when I raise my concerns about Equipment of the Batmobile, an article that treats the Batmobile as though it were a real vehicle and is totally dependent on what appears to be fansites? Pairadox (talk) 10:31, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the information would seem to be encyclopedic to me. I was going to support the merge, but (per Wikipedia:Summary style) it would be a good choice for splitting from the article.
That said, it really could use a better name. "Equipment" gives me more a sense of special gadgets (such as an ejector seat, or something), than car specs. Any ideas for a clearer name? - jc37 11:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I renamed the page to Batmobile technical specifications, which should be clearer. Note that "fictional" is presumed due to the usage of the term "Batmobile" : ) - jc37 16:30, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe fictional can be presumed as there are real Batmobiles, created for TV and movies. The vehicles clearly do not have the same level tech specs in reality as there comics/film/TV counterparts, but are highly visible at comic conventions, car shows and other promotions. Clarificaction between the two can be reloved in the text itself and not necessarily the page name; however the is a level of disticition between the two. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 21:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Notice board

[edit]
Moved request from my talk page, in case others have similar issues. - jc37 20:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was recently trying to remove an old merge request and RfC for the Notice board, but have been having difficulty doing son. I was hoping you could help provide me with a little direction. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 20:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

I can see the problem. It's because there is no link to last year's discussion page. Intentionally, the only difference in the links is the year.
But to more directly help, here's the direct link:
Please don't delete the notices, but instead, once resolved, move them (in chronological order) under "completed".
I hope this helps : ) - jc37 20:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there anything that can be done about the request for comment? -66.109.248.114 (talk) 20:40, 14 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]
As I said, just click on the link to the 2008 page, and change "2008" to "2007" in your address bar, and voila : )
But for now, here's the direct link : ) - jc37 11:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

==Edit war about to happen== I'm afraid I don't know how to get to the "Misc." section of the Project Page. There's an SHB dispute over whether to keep the "universally recognisable" image of Bucky, or to go against that policy and use his week-old Captain America look — something that was not done when Bucky was the Winter Soldier. --Tenebrae (talk) 00:33, 2 February 2008 (UTC) Resolved at talk page[reply]

Ms. Marvel

[edit]

I request that the move request for this article be removed, as there is/was no discussion for it. Rau's Speak Page 00:01, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2nded, I provided a note of contention on the talk page for the character, but there has been nothing for over 2 mths. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 00:10, 16 June 2008 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks for explaining how to remove requests. I removed it. Rau's Speak Page 00:50, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Same issue, but less contensious for Fire and Ice if you'd like to explore them as well. An no problemo. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 01:43, 16 June 2008 (UTC).[reply]
I don't really know about their histories. I've never encountered either in any comic I've read. Rau's Speak Page 01:46, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Recently I tried to ad an external link for Mineshaft magazine to Robert Crumb's Wikipedia listing. It was suggested to me by the Wikipedia editor who removed it that I put the question up for other editors to decide. I would like to ask Wikipedia editors to consider putting Mineshaft magazine back on Robert Crumb's External Links section. Mineshaft is a valuable resource for anyone interested in learning more about Robert Crumb. Mineshaft has published more art and letters by R. Crumb than any other contemporary U.S. magazine. Mineshaft has been publishing R. Crumb since 2000 when he discovered the magazine, eighteen issues in a row. He has drawn the magazine's logos, 9 front covers, 8 back covers, and has contributed a total of 119 pages of artwork and letters. And he's encouraged other great artists to contribute to the magazine. He's sent Mineshaft contributions from his wife, Aline Kominsky-Crumb, his daughter, Sophie Crumb, and writer, J.R. Helton. "It's my favorite magazine..," says R. Crumb (letter to the editor published in Mineshaft #18). No entry on Robert Crumb's modern work is complete without a reference to Mineshaft. Mineshaft is not a big money maker. It's hard to find and Wikipedia is an important place to be able to discover R. Crumb's recent work. For a recent review of Mineshaft go to the Comics Reporter,<a href="http://www.comicsreporter.com/index.php/briefings/cr_reviews/12670/"/>Tom Spurgeon's "The Comics Reporter" </a>.Aloha67 (talk) 21:21, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, all that says is that the magazine contains sketches of Crumb's. It doesn't mention him in any other way. Ford MF (talk) 21:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the link that I want to have added is <href="http://www.mineshaftmagazine.com"/> Mineshaft Magazine </a> Aloha67 (talk) 21:51, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Publication Histories

[edit]

I just created an account to put this up, my first time using Wikipedia, so bear with me. I would like to see the pages for comic book characters contain cohesive publication histories. Many already have this, but read out in paragraph form and often seem to contain retcons and commentary on the character. An example of this is Bucky's page. What I am suggesting is a list of what the character has been featured in, possibly including notable guest appearances or cameos. Specifically, each item in the list will state the name of series, the volume number, and the issue or range of issues, as well as date artist and author. A very short explanation of the character's involvement can coincide with each item of the list (i.e. team member, villian, guest appearance, cameo, parody, etc). This is a tall order, but something I've always felt was sorely misshandled in Wikipedia's comic book character pages. Primal Zed (talk) 18:25, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Given that a number of footnoted pages in the Comics Project have disappeared (Jess Nevins' treasures among them — and despite what one person has said, they don't appear to be archived), I've been slowly going through pages I've created and putting as many references as I can into the WebCite archive here. I'll start other pages after that, but obviously this is too big for any one person. I urge all my fellow editors to start archiving existing links, and to automatically create an archive when adding footnotes. (This isn't practical for every single footnote; some sites have no-cache tags preventing archiving. But we should do this where we can.)--Tenebrae (talk) 01:09, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The link to "Recent Creations" needs to be updated to link to the newly created 2010 page, rather than to the 2009 page. I would do it, but I believe this page can only be edited by admins. -- Tenebrae (talk) 21:02, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed addition to Comics Project Manual of Style

[edit]

Voting has begun here on a proposed addition the WikiProject Comics' Manual of Style. A consensus discussion resulted in the decision that we include creator bibliographies. Given that, we need a guideline to bring consistency to the present hodgepodge of ways comic-book creators' credits are presented.

For the full background discussion by nine editors, see Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (comics)#Bibliographies: Discussion background. Please go here to vote/comment. --Tenebrae (talk) 14:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Project-members: Need more input

[edit]

Only three editors have responded so far. Given that a consensus exists to keep creator bibliographies, we need to have some sort of style guide for them, as opposed to the hodgepodge we have now. One of Wikipedia's guidelines is to have consistency across similar articles. We need a range of editors' feedback in order to fix the mishmash. With thanks, --Tenebrae (talk) 15:17, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional history of Spider-Man

[edit]

The month-long process of bringing this troubled article up to Wikipedia policies and standards is ready for final review. Please see Talk:Fictional history of Spider-Man#Rewrite and replacement and the related linked pages to comment. -- Tenebrae (talk) 00:55, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested moves, merges, etc.

[edit]

It seems all the data regarding these is at least a year behind. What's up with that? Anyway, might I suggest transcluding from Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Notice board/Requested moves/2011 for the next 12 months or so? (It seems all other move discussions have been concluded. What to do about the merges, though, I'm not sure. There's an apparent backlog which still needs clearing. Eh. Oh, and, by the by, if everyone could stop by Talk:John Byrne#Requested move, I'd really appreciate it. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 00:34, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with above. Since User:Hiding has cut back on his contributions, this page has no had someone regularly caring for it. As one of the WPC veterans, I can volunteer to begin keeping it update.
In the meantime, we have a merger proposal at Horror comics. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:53, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don Markstein's Toonopedia

[edit]

I'm I afraid I may have some bad news. User:Pepso2 and I recently began a project to archive Don Markstein's Toonopedia now that Don has passed and we were afraid his invaluable site would go down. I did all of "A" and the first part of "C", and Pepso was working on "B." I was about to contact a couple other Comics Project Members to help ... and then just now I tried going to Toonopedia and got "You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." I hope this is only temporary. If it does come back — it was done for a few days once before — we should probably make a Project-wide effort to archive it as quickly as we can. Don put his life into that thing, and it'd be terrible to see his life's work evaporate.--Tenebrae (talk) 02:12, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
