Purpose
[edit]The Introduction explains the purpose of this glossary. In brief: it's designed as an aid to Wikipedia editors writing English articles about topics from sources in Brazilian Portuguese. More specifically, in order to keep it to a reasonable size and make it useful to editors, the glossary is limited in scope to government, law, police, and criminal investigations. Off-topic items will be removed. Mathglot (talk) 00:41, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Icon links in entries
[edit]The following icons are in use in some headword entries to indicate links, as follows:
However these are not ideal; in particular the two Wiktionary tiles are too similar, and I'm not sure a Brazilian flag icon is a good visual for an article on pt-wiki. One could ask the graphics lab for help on this; maybe just adding a small 'pt' overlaying, or in the corner, of the standard gray Wikipedia for pt-wiki (and a slightly different gray or other color background?), and something similar for the Wiktionary tile for pt:wikt. Instructions for adapting glossary entries in articles
[edit]Regarding the request here for a way to simplify the adaptation of glossary entries for use in articles, I've modified the entry for Condução coercitiva as a trial of one possible approach to doing this. Feedback welcome. Mathglot (talk) 07:50, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
- There are now some more examples, including the entries: WP:Brazil-G#Vantagem indevida, WP:Brazil-G#Colaboração premiada, and WP:Brazil-G#Delação premiada. Mathglot (talk) 23:27, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Discussing changes\additions
[edit]I'm going to propose some changes for consideration below. Here's the first one:

Alternatively, a new entry for "golpe" could be added to the glossary.
Rationale: take a look at this headline for example:
- Grupo suspeito de estelionato é preso em BH por golpes
Google translates this as:
- Suspected group of swindlers is arrested in BH for blows
A better way to translate that would be:
- Group of suspected swindlers is arrested in BH over scams
(BH = Belo Horizonte = a city)
Another example:
- Extensa, ficha criminal revela hacker da Lava Jato autor de múltiplos golpes 171: Em vários dos procedimentos abertos, Delgatti responde pelo artigo de estelionato do Código Penal
Google translates this as:
- Extensive, criminal record reveals Lava Jato hacker author of multiple scams 171: In several of the open proceedings, Delgatti is responsible for the article on the Criminal Code's fraud
A better way to translate that would be:
- Extensive criminal record reveals that Lava Jato's hacker authored multiple "171" scams: In several proceedings, Delgatti is accused of violating the Criminal Code's article related to fraud.
