FYI: Since a request was made that this be discussed broadly, for the record, I have contacted WP:TOURISM, WP:HOTEL, WP:CE, WP:HSITES and WP:NRHP and pointed them here.

Because of Dr. Blofeld's involvement in getting maps incorporated into a lot of templates including {{Infobox settlement}}, I queried him about augmenting {{Infobox building}} to include multipin map options. He pointed out {{Infobox settlement}} as an example and recommended that I talk to a couple of people including Frietjes about making the necessary changes and Frietjes has encouraged pursuit of consensus to any major changes to such a widely used template. Prior to yesterday, Broadway Hollywood Building looked like this with a single map. Frietjes nested another template within the main {{Infobox building}} in order to add a second template. Frietjes also pointed out that there are at least five relevant zoom levels for this location (see scroll bar on right).

Looking at an article like Chicago with three maps working together to provide cartographic content, I think that Infobox building needs three maps: a map for the local people (people familiar with the local area) who would benefit from a street level map, a map of the city for people less familiar with the city and then either a state or national map. Something at least like the three maps at the left with the pins added is what I am seeking approval for as an optionality where the maps are available (mostly big cities). An argument could be made that there is a significant amount of additional cartographic content by adding the Southern California map right above the US map and I would support that option too.

I believe that in order to make it polished the side-by-side image will have to be the same height. I don't know if images can be presented by height or if widths can be adjusted algebraically based on relative aspect ratios. Also, the template may have to be flexible for more remote locations where only one level of zoomed in map is available and for the many existing articles during the interim time that it will take to convert to multiple maps.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 20:52, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

P.S. I am not sure how the buildings that use {{Infobox NRHP}} should be handled, but there may need to be an additional consideration for them.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:10, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
New functionality: click on a map, it zooms, like Google Maps. You can use all maps, and the user can click to get the next zoom level of interest. - Denimadept (talk) 21:14, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Are you requesting that functionality or alerting me to its existance?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:16, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm unaware of its existence, so I'm suggesting it. It could be simulated with a slow animated GIF, I suppose. - Denimadept (talk) 21:25, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
By the way, please do not use "*" to indent on a talk page. The normal method is one ":" for each level of indent. - Denimadept (talk) 21:27, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
That is an interesting option to consider. I am not sure what is feasible. I await feedback.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:42, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
Either something better than is being proposed above should be feasible, or we should stick with one map. The infobox is supposed to include only the most relevant information about the article subject, not all information. Readers also almost always have the option to click on the coordinates and look up the subject on a range of zoomable interactive up-to-date maps. I think the French wiki's solution (example - click on the links below the map) is also preferable to squeezing in multiple maps at the same time in the infobox. --ELEKHHT 01:41, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
I like the French wiki solution as well. It would also avoid the aspect ratio issue. I also think it would make us free to include all five maps in this example case.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 02:08, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
Frietjes, is the French wiki's solution (example) feasible? Can you copy that code?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:37, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
Denimadept, are you watching this? Did you see the French wiki solution suggestion?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:37, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
I just took a look at the French WP's option. Yes, that's pretty good. Do we want to do this, or just pick a zoom map level and maybe put the clickable coords right below it, or make the image itself clickable to zoom out to another level? I think the explicit links method is better, as it's clear up-front, rather than expecting the user to try clicking on something which hasn't really been clickable before. - Denimadept (talk) 02:43, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Denimadept, Dear Lord, what are all the options you are talking about. I think you said something to the effect of yes this is good. Do we want to do this or two other things that we probably shouldn't do. Yes this is better than the two other things we probably shouldn't do.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:24, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Yup, I just keep coming up with ideas! :-D - Denimadept (talk) 05:34, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger: @Dr. Blofeld: @Frietjes: I've set up a demo of this at User:Jackmcbarn/switcher. If it looks good, I'll request that it be set up for all users. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:50, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
It looks good. Will we be able to control the width in an infobox? What will the default width be?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:44, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
P.S. Denimadept and Elekhh should also comment.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:47, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Okay, TonyTheTiger. I've taken a look. That's not bad, but now that you've got me thinking about it that way, here's what I suggest: start with the image of the USA. As a person mouses over it, zoom in to the more specific maps. I've seen this somewhere... oh yes, Flickr when an image is geocoded. It switches from a way-zoomed-out image to a very specific one. See my image for an example. You'll see that if you mouse over the map below the image, you'll get the behavior I'm thinking of. - Denimadept (talk) 21:55, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger: My code is completely content-agnostic. It'll be the same width as whatever you put inside it. @Denimadept: That would require a substantial rewrite in how location maps work. I agree that's a good idea, and I've been wanting to do something like that for a while, but I think it's outside the scope of this project. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:02, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I think it'd have wide appeal, Jackmcbarn. And a bot could swap the templates, perhaps. - Denimadept (talk) 01:38, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
@Denimadept: What's "it" refer to there? Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:43, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Jackmcbarn, y'know, the topic here: this modification to location maps. - Denimadept (talk) 02:12, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
@Denimadept: I meant, are you talking about the thing I wrote a demo of, or the zooming idea you mentioned that I said is separate? Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:21, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
@Jackmcbarn: I guess I'm unclear about what you're trying to do. What you posted looked like an image with some links below it. Clicking the links changed the image. Is that what you were trying to do? What I'm saying is that I want it to be automatic, without the links. - Denimadept (talk) 08:52, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Denimadept, I don't understand your complaint. We basically all agreed that we wanted him to replicate the French WP and he has done so masterfully. Now, you are asking him to do something else? There isn't much reason to complain.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 12:47, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
@Denimadept: For this project, the links are all I'm trying to do. In the future, I may try to implement your other idea, but not now. Jackmcbarn (talk) 14:27, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
okay. - Denimadept (talk) 08:35, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
I've posted at MediaWiki talk:Common.js#Proposal to add a switcher. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:03, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Discussion has moved to Wikipedia talk:Gadget#Switcher gadget. Jackmcbarn (talk) 17:07, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger, Dr. Blofeld, Frietjes, and Elekhh: This is now live here, although no articles are currently set up to use it. User:Jackmcbarn now has good documentation on how it can be set up on articles. Tony and Elekhh: please remove the importScript line from your common.js files now that this is a gadget. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:28, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Jackmcbarn, Live here where? Could you fix Broadway Hollywood Building as an example?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 21:23, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger: I think 5 may be a bit much, so I just activated it for the 2 that were already there. More can be added by adding another # sign and their name to the map type line, as you can see at User:Jackmcbarn/switcher#Infobox building. Also, can you remove the line to load the script from your common.js? Jackmcbarn (talk) 22:46, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Jackmcbarn, We need to discuss what the norm will be since I have a lot of articles to convert. I would prefer to add all 5 and do a similar thing for Chicago Buildings.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:33, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld, Frietjes, Elekhh, and Jackmcbarn: Can we discuss whether we are going to actually use the new capacity of the template. I asked Jackmcbarn to add it at Broadway Hollywood Building as an example and he opted to only show 2 of the 5 maps. I think we should allow the reader to see all 5 and make their choice. I think we should come to an agreement on this however.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:52, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
I guess using all 5 would be fine. I just wasn't totally sure about it then. Jackmcbarn (talk) 04:55, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Could you add all 5 to that building and do all the maps for two Chicago buildings for me (Marshall Field and Company Building and Gerald Ratner Athletics Center).--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 16:25, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger:  Done Jackmcbarn (talk) 03:26, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Jackmcbarn, The Marshall Field and Company Building has the same problem that we had with the Broadway Hollywood Building. The Loop map and the Chicago map are being conflated into one option.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 09:39, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@TonyTheTiger: That one is now fixed as well. Since very few things used maps' names prior to this, most map authors weren't very careful about choosing an appropriate name, but luckily, it's a rather easy fix. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:02, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Jackmcbarn, The Marshall Field and Company Building should also have the greater Chicago map that Gerald Ratner Athletics Center uses as its Chicago map. Also, I don't think either map is really a Chicago Map. I.e. the MFaCB Chicago map does not include all of Chicago. I don't even think that the GRAC is on that map. The GRAC map of Chicago is a greater Chicago map. We need another map like File:US-IL-Chicago-CA.png or File:Map of the Community Areas and 'Sides' of the City of Chicago.svg for just Chicago. Is either of those maps eligible for use in this system?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:35, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

@TonyTheTiger: I added the GRAC map to the MFC article. I also updated Template:Location map United States Chicago Greater to use the name "Greater Chicago". What name do you suggest that Template:Location map United States Chicago should have? Also, regarding the maps you suggested, they can't be used with the location map system because they don't specify the details of their projection. For an example of what is required, see File:USA Illinois location map.svg (used by Template:Location map USA Illinois). It specifies that it is an equirectangular projection as well as what its boundaries are. You can go to Wikipedia:Graphics Lab/Map workshop and request a location map image of a given area, though. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:47, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

Jackmcbarn, Request is in at Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Map_workshop#Chicago_location_map.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:32, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
Does anyone know how long the Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Map_workshop map request might take.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 07:02, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I have just created a page about Zoltan Pali, an architect from the LA area. I am hopinng some of you at WP Architecture will be able to help me expand it. Please feel free to do so. Additionally, in time we may be able to take a few pictures of his designs (especially the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts). Feel free to comment on my talkpage if you have any further suggestions. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 01:45, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

For anyone interested, please give your input at Talk:Lincoln Memorial regarding the number and size of images in the article. Thanks. APK whisper in my ear 05:52, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

WPA School design

There's a particular school design that I've come to associate with the Works Progress Administration. One variant of it can be seen here. The middle school I attended is here, and a similar one in Providence is here Does anybody know more about it? Is this a particular design, or just a particular architectural style? Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 12:59, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

There's a discussion taking place at Talk:White House regarding the infobox image. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. APK whisper in my ear 00:18, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

I have suggested that this article be renamed, and the background material split off into a general article on Russian memorial gates. de:The Oaks (Bürogebäude) - photo(s) needed

Dear Wikipedians from California/Architecture/Requested Pictures,

at german Wikipedia we just wrote an article about an architectural interesting office building at teh border of Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village, California. It has been used in several movies, such as Demolition Man or 12:01. Its not the same as The Oaks (Thousand Oaks, California), as the one I am talking about is located here: 34° 9′ 21.95″ N 118° 49′ 8.84″ W. We would be very happy to have a picture for this building. We already checked Wikipedia Commons if there is one - no. Could you help us with someone near this place taking a photo of that building? Or could you pass this question additionally to a better fitting place at english Wikipedia - if this is not the right place? I post this question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject California, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Architecture and Wikipedia talk:Requested pictures but none of those seem to fit perfectly. Looking forward

Peer review for Manor House, Sleaford

Hello, I have put the Manor House, Sleaford up for peer review here. It's an interesting building in Lincolnshire with some notable owners, and has received less attention than it should have done. Having squeezed the sources dry, I'm hoping to nominate it for GA and so any comments would be much appreciated. Kind regards, —Noswall59 (talk) 21:28, 25 March 2015 (UTC).

Arcology

Arcology is an article assessed at mid-importance and is currently in a slow-motion content dispute regarding its lengthy "in popular culture" section. In the face of criticism that items in the section are poorly sourced as to their accuracy and relevance, Beyond My Ken (talk · contribs) has repeatedly reverted changes, including changes that merely tag the disputed material as such. He will allow removal of items only after discussion in the abstract (i.e. without reference to sources) about whether they should be in the article. But it is an expectation written into Wikipedia guidelines that material in an article should be verifiable from sources as to its accuracy and its notability among similar material. BMK wants a discussion outside those guidelines. Can anyone see a way forward in this dispute? 50.185.134.48 (talk) 04:47, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Category: Incomplete Cathedrals?

I was reading the Beauvais Cathedral article and when I finished it I checked the category listing as I was sure I had read about another cathedral in France where construction had stopped partway and never been resumed however this does not appear to have been made a category.

Does this sound like a good idea? 58.7.151.70 (talk) 07:34, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Probably not. Most medieval cathedrals were never completed as initially planned, and were constantly modified and extended for centuries. --ELEKHHT 01:32, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

This article has recently been promoted to FA which prompts a couple of questions. Firstly, how do I get it into the Assessment Table? Secondly, what should its Importance rating be? I've rated it High, as I think it is a "Very important building (by a very important) architect." Its own importance is evidenced by its Grade I listed building status. The importance of its architect, William Burges, is evidenced by the High Importance rating he already has on the Architecture Portal scale. That said, I would be interested in other views as I can be rather partial when it comes to Billy Burges and I may be overstating its importance in the wider context. KJP1 (talk) 07:16, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

As long the article has a WikiProject Architecture tag on its talk page, it will be added automatically to the Assessment Table by Bot 1.0 that updates daily - which has already happened. With importance ratings the main problem is that we do not have a detailed enough criteria (see discussion here). Regarding The Tower House, my sense is that while in the context of English or broader Western architecture one might be able to argue that is high importance, from a global perspective I would rather rate it mid-importance. However, in the absence of detailed guidelines, this is subject to reaching consensus. --ELEKHHT 00:53, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks for the response. I entirely take the point re. Importance; when viewed in a global context across the whole of history, the Tower House may well be better rated as Mid Importance. That said, the absence of detailed criteria does create a problem for consistency. To take a few, very Anglo-centric examples, Belton House, Holkham Hall and Little Moreton Hall are all rated Mid Importance whilst Bramall Hall is rated High Importance. I'd struggle to justify that, either in terms of architectural merit or historical significance. Perhaps Bramall and the Tower House are rated too highly. Let's see if we get any other views. If we don't, I'll take our two views as consensus and change the Tower to Mid importance. Regards. KJP1 (talk) 06:11, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

looking for english term

how do you call this "stripe style"?

hello, i'm looking for the english term for d:Q1018991 = de:Bänderung (Architektur) and nl:Band (bouwkundig). translation tools suggest "banding" or "facade banding", but there are only a few pages using these terms. i want to create a new Commons category for this and therefore need a correct english term (if existing, or possible). Please notice that buildings with dominant horizontal stripes are typical for various regions in several countries; they do not have a specific architectural style in common. Holger1959 (talk) 00:16, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Very good question. Here's a recent paper arguing that there is a lack of precise terminology in English to describe such architectural design features. The paper argues that "striped facade/architecture" would be the better term when the bands form a repetitive pattern. Google books shows current usage of the term. Note that there is some inconsistency between the already linked articles: the Dutch wiki article refers to a single band as opposed to the German wiki article that refers to a pattern of repetitive bands. --ELEKHHT 01:26, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
ELEKHH: danke! The paper is really helpful and gave me an impression how complicated architectural terminology is. Do you think it makes sense to differenciate between horizontally and vertically striped buildings? i only had horizontally examples in my mind when asking, but i have also seen vertically ones (but not so often). Holger1959 (talk) 08:21, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
I wouldn't add horizontal/vertical to the name to keep it short and avoid over-categorization. Both the above reference and the German wiki article seem to assume that striped facade/Bänderung are generally horizontal. I also cannot think of examples that would be vertically striped. --ELEKHHT 10:45, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
Are you looking for Ablaq? AmateurEditor (talk) 23:06, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
AmateurEditor: thank you very much for this link! i didn't know the term before; an interesting article. Because Ablaq and c:Category:Ablaq are specifically about the arabic/islamic architecture – and, if i understand correct, only about stone work and light/dark colored rows, but also about interior walls or decorations of buildings – this would make a good subcategory for a more general "Category:Stripes in architecture" (which may also include, for example, painted stripes on eg. wooden buildings, or "raised stripes"/uneven facades, and as well building exteriors and interiors).
ELEKHH: thank you, again! What do you think about "Category:Stripes in architecture" as a new "catch-all" category, with "Category:Striped facades" and "Category:Ablaq" as first subcategories? Holger1959 (talk) 09:39, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
now see c:Category:Stripes in architecture and subcategories, additions and improvements welcome. Holger1959 (talk) 05:35, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Stale AfC submission

Could you have a look at Draft:Garrison-Wills House? Much appreciated, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 18:20, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm also requesting that you take a look. What are the requirements for having an article about an historic era house on Wikipedia? This article was written under Articles for Creation as a Draft, and turned down because the only references were deeds, etc. It was written in May 2014 along with several other articles about historic houses in the list in the Mauricetown, New Jersey article. They were all written by different editors, perhaps as an historical society project. The other articles are in mainspace, but are also using deeds and census records as references for the houses. Thank you for looking at this. StarryGrandma (talk) 20:43, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

John Pawson page re-write

Hello, I am writing from the office of British architectural designer John Pawson. We have recently made the mistake of updating a few details on Mr Pawson’s Wikipedia entry — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pawson — and have subsequently noticed that an alert now appears concerning a major contributor to the article appearing to have a close connection with its subject. We clearly admit our error and understand completely that Wikipedia policy is that articles must be written from a neutral point of view and should not be authored by the subject. Would anyone be able to review the page and re-write within the wiki guidelines? John Pawson (talk) 11:37, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

The best approach would be if you suggest any improvements of additions (properly sourced) via the article's Talk page. Clearly the large chunk of material about Pawson was a direct copy-paste, or a close paraphrase of his background info on his website. Wikipedia prefers objective sources such as books, news or magazine articles (sources with editorial oversight). You also need to be wary of uploading images under a free licence when they are, in fact, copyrighted to someone else. Sionk (talk) 10:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Well done, it sounds like a laudable initiative! There was lots of activity on this subject area a couple of years ago, for example I created a List of women architects and Ipigott created a Women in architecture article. The intention of the former was to help identify significant women architects and create more articles (we've written several since, including one on the first known woman architect).
There are obviously hurdles to overcome, as you've discovered. For example the subjects need to meet Wikpedia's 'notability' criteria (i.e. WP:GNG or WP:CREATIVE). Though some people will argue that any woman that has broken into the male dominated world of architecture is notable, Wikipedia needs to see reliable, independent, published proof of this claim. And I think too that articles about women attract a lot more scrutiny (and sometimes scepticism) from the largely male pool of Wikipedia editors.
You might want to raise your heads at WikiProject Women artists too. There has been discussion about whether to include architects in the scope of that project, but the idea hasn't gained great support (certainly modern architects share a significant crossover with design, planning, construction and engineering etc.). Good luck! Sionk (talk) 21:17, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

many thanks! will do right now. Loriannbrown (talk) 23:26, 20 April 2015 (UTC)loriannbrown

I fully support your intention to extend work on women architects and designers. You should certainly bring your ideas to the attention of Gobonobo, Rosiestep and others at WikiProject Women's History. I noticed that there were at least 30 new biographies on women architects during March 2015 in connection with Women's History Month - see Wikipedia:WikiWomen's_History_Month/2015/Outcomes but I also saw many others that were deleted within a day or two as they did not contain sufficient sources or evidence of notability. Maybe your efforts were behind some of these. I seem to remember there were quite a number of biographies of Australian women architects, some of which looked like individuals wishing to advertise their services. I hope your initiative will help to avoid such problems which can be upsetting for the editors involved until they gain more experience. As you probably know, the User:Gobonobo/Gender_Gap_red_list already contains a number of red links on architects and designers. I am also aware of a huge number of biographies in other languages, especially in French, German and the Scandinavian languages which deserve coverage in the English wiki. See for example fr:Liste de femmes architectes and women's names in category lists such as da:Kategori:Påbegyndte_biografier_om_arkitekter. As I have just spent two or three months on extending coverage of women writers, I have decided to turn to other areas of interest over the next few months. I do however intend to concentrate on biographies of women artists from January 2016 in connection with next year's Women's History Month and would be happy to include architects too. Just let me know if you need any specific help with translation, etc. Good luck.--Ipigott (talk) 06:57, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

I strongly suggest that you Lori and the other three contributors to the project listed on your Wikimedia project page should write up user profiles on the user pages on Wikipedia (and possibly also on Wikimedia). (I believe two of you still need to become registered users.) As far as I can see only two of you have made any contributions to Wikipedia articles. Although three of you have included summary background information on your (highly relevant) professional experience on your project page, I have not been able to find any information on user:Wisible or on the people listed as your advisors. If you need help with this, please let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 15:14, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

looking for English term for roof strutures

Hello, i'm looking for the English term for the roof structures pictured, (please view commons:Category:Avenida dos Aliados). In Portuguese people call them: lanternim (roof lantern?); cúpula (cupola?); coruchéu (spire?); domo (dome?). I'm not sure what the best generic term to apply, if there is one.

Thank you. --JotaCartas (talk) 02:32, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

A new copy-paste detection bot is now in general use on English Wikipedia. Come check it out at the EranBot reporting page. This bot utilizes the Turnitin software (ithenticate), unlike User:CorenSearchBot that relies on a web search API from Yahoo. It checks individual edits rather than just new articles. Please take 15 seconds to visit the EranBot reporting page and check a few of the flagged concerns. Comments welcome regarding potential improvements. These likely copyright violations can be searched by WikiProject categories. Use "control-f" to jump to your area of interest (if such a copyvio is present). --Lucas559 (talk) 15:31, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

GT nom English Heritage properties in Somerset and FT nom Scheduled monuments in Somerset

Would anyone be willing to review a couple of nominations which are relevant to this project? I nominated English Heritage properties in Somerset as a good topic back in April and it has only received 2 comments, while Scheduled monuments in Somerset has been almost a month without any comments on its featured topic nomination. Any comments would be very welcome.— Rod talk 20:07, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Landscape architecture taskforce?

Landscape architecture has emerged as a distinct field and profession, and as WikiProject Architecture is expanding, I wonder if there is need and interest to start a specific taskforce on this topic? There would be many articles in scope that require improvement (see Category:Landscape architecture). If there is sufficient interest I am happy to help setting up a taskforce. --ELEKHHT 02:40, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm interested in contributing. My specialty will be mostly in Philadelphia. I'm currently working on research for the expansion of Independence Mall (Philadelphia), specifically the most recent iteration. My availability fluctuates, so I'll gladly join the taskforce, though I don't know about assuming any sort of leadership role. --D. Travis North [Coplan] (talk) 19:53, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Bryce Building?

The information in Bryce Building and Bryce Building (Fort Worth, Texas) do not match, but they share the same street address in FW,TX,US. Are these the same building, or two separate buildings, and which set of information is correct? Since if they are two separate buildings, one or both contains bad information; but if they are the same building, then one or both contains bad information and the two need to be merged. If the are separate buildings, then the disambiguator doesn't work if both are in Fort Worth. -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 06:26, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Well spotted! For the time being I've redirected the disambiguated (shorter) article to the un-disambguated (slightly longer) Bryce Building article. Obviously any question about the 'facts' can be cleared up if someone adds sources. Sionk (talk) 14:44, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Hadrian

A few days ago I finished a thorough copy-edit of the article Hadrian in response to a request at WP:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. I left a few questions for the requester at User talk:Cerme#Hadrian. One of them, item 5, has to do with a description of a temple built by Hadrian that is in the section Hadrian#Africa, Parthia and Anatolia; Antinous (123–124). Cerme replied on my talk page at User talk:Corinne#Again on Hadrian: "marble with gold thread".. Do you have any further information that would clarify what exactly was meant by "marble with gold thread"? Corinne (talk) 16:50, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

I'd like to improve the article, but I don't want to work on it if it's not notable (and if it'll be deleted). Can anyone tell me if it deserves to remain on Wikipedia? --Almicione (talk) 22:16, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

So I have an old house in the UK, and wanted to identify the style of skirting board I have. So searched Wikipedia for skirting board. It redirected to baseboard, which only suggested Moulding_(decorative). This seems only to have moulding styles with respect to coving (ceilings). So I was saddened to have to search outside of Wikipedia to find what I needed. http://www.skirting-board.co.uk/skirting-board-profiles.html had a useful list of profiles, and I found mine was 'Small Torus'. I searched Wikipedia to confirm, that the term doesn't come up in the context of architecture/decoration. So I thought I'd add this comment point out out the surprising lack of something. Hope it's helpful. If I knew more on the subject I'd write a page, but I'm not an expert.

New article: Flounder house

Hello all!

I've drafted an article about flounder houses. A flounder house has a shed roof and lacks windows and doors on its tallest wall.

Would anyone here be interested in collaborating in making it ready to move to the mainspace? Feel free to dive in, say hey on my talk page, or send me a note.

Thanks for the help!

  • Proposed to Merge List of Roman theatres into Roman theatre (structure) (ie just put the list below the article). The first of what is intended to be a series of proposals to reduce the very bad habit that has grown up in this area of separating short articles and fairly short lists. Here the article is only 6.2 kbytes and the list 33 kb. It is unencyclopedic to keep them apart - readers of each should see both. Outside the table the list article has only a one-line introduction (which manages to include two spellings of "theatre/theater"). In cases where the combined length would be excessive (eg Greek temple and the matching list) there is sense in this approach (with a proper introduction) but not here. Please comment at Talk:List of Roman theatres, not here. Johnbod (talk) 14:05, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Would anyone be interested in helping to clean up List of tallest buildings in Austin as it is undergoing a featured list review. There are some very big problems with many of the "tallest buildings lists" that are currently featured. I think this list specifically no longer meets featured list criteria. Specifically, two whole sections (under construction and approved) are completely unreferenced. There is an outdated tag from 3 years ago not addressed. There are many dead links, very messy citations, images have no alt-texts, and many of the buildings in the main list are unsourced. It has been neglected for years now and it shows. This would take a lot of work to bring it up to standards again sadly...

I have nominated List of tallest buildings in Austin for featured list removal here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured list criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks; editors may declare to "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Awaken the Dragon Edit-a-thon/Contest

Hi, can I interest anybody in contributing to a national edit-a-thon/contest for Wales in April, Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon. You can win up to £200 worth of Amazon vouchers and books of your choice for entering the contest. The idea is that Amazon vouchers and books can then be used by people to buy/have discount off more books and produce more articles for wikipedia. There is also a prize for the person who creates or expands the most articles on Welsh listed buildings, a Pevsner book of choice worth up to £30. However, if contests and prize aren't your cup of tea you're very welcome to participate in the edit-athon throughout the month. Everything will count and be added to a list at the bottom. We have a number of missing listed buildings identified and a core list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Core articles. Already we have about 30 people interested but it would be great to see more get involved and producing content and really show what can be achieved in a month. The point of it is getting some of the core articles up to decent status and an overall improvement in quality. So if you generally work on country houses or brudges or whatever and you spot something which might interest you please consider working on it within the next four weeks! There is also a physical edit-athon at the National Library of Wales on April 22, see this for details.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:45, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
