Userbox

[edit]

I've just created and added a userbox to the main page. Hope that's all right with you.--Twilight Helryx (talk) 20:31, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks great; thanks! rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 21:58, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no problem! <3--Twilight Helryx (talk) 23:55, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship with WikiGryphons?

[edit]

I've just noticed that based on descriptions, WikiGryphons and WikiPlatypuses are actually quite similar (besides the obvious avian/mammalian appearances). They might even be even more closely related to each other than WikiDragons to WikiOtters because WikiGriffs and WikiPlatypuses have at least one aspect that's practically identical: they're both jacks-of-all-trades. Of course, they both have their differences such as WikiGryphons having at least one behavior that's fixed. Do you think that there should be a section on this page and/or the WikiGryphon page about this connection?--Twilight Helryx (talk) 20:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The main difference is probably just stylistic. To be honest, my primary reason for creating this page was because I found the WikiGryphon article a bit self-congratulatory and didn't feel it really applies to me; plus it has a lot more details (such as how WikiGryphons collaborate with each other, don't like trolls, yada yada) whereas this one is more bare bones—the one defining characteristic of a WikiPlatypus is that it does a little bit of everything, and other "behavioral" characteristics can't change that ;) rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 21:14, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can blame me for the all the details. I thought they were vague (maybe yes, maybe no, etc) but judging from the looks of things, they most likely weren't and I sadly ended up getting carried away and went too far from my original intention, which was not unlike yours (an more all-around WikiFauna; I couldn't find any that matched me perfectly at the time either). Which is why I am going to remove some excess details that inadvertently isolate the WikiGryphon but leave the part about vandal hunting in. What I've learned is that sometimes, less is more. I've just noticed now that I'm putting even more detail in the article than the WikiDragons! (despite the shorter length). Still, I wonder what happens when a WikiGryphon and a WikiPlatypus collaborate...--Twilight Helryx (talk) 22:13, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tossed the dead weight overboard and left the really necessary info in. Do you think this clarifies a bit whether or not we're (somewhat) related?--Twilight Helryx (talk) 22:19, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And please don't take this personally, I really admire your WikiPlatypus idea and if it had existed about a month ago, I might not have felt the need to create the WikiGryphon concept. Unfortunately, what's done is done and I don't fit Platypus definition as well and thus I am left in my sad isolation (I haven't seen any other WikiGryphons so far--ones that identify as such anyway). T_T--Twilight Helryx (talk) 22:23, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind. I don't think I should trouble you with this any longer if the gap is still too big. Anyway, I'm not sure if there are any other WikiGryphons so I am considering getting it deleted if I cannot find any others beside myself.--Twilight Helryx (talk) 23:00, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that you need to rewrite or delete it--I think it's just a different style! And since there are different styles of editors, different styles of fauna suit them--some editors probably feel more in common with the WikiGryphon description, and some with the WikiPlatypus description. After all, both are mish-mashes of different sorts of animals...one is just grander than the other. I think it's perfectly fine to have two different pages... you could even add a blurb (to one or both) mentioning that they are kindred spirits, but clarifying any differences that you think there are. (For example, here's one possible one off the top of my head.... WikiGryphons consider their variety a source of pride, and see varied editing as a goal; whereas WikiPlatypi really wish they could stick to being WikiSloths, WikiFairies, WikiDragons, or whatnot, but just don't have very much self-control.) rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:59, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't mind me, I honestly have no idea why I said "deletion". >_> I like how you put the differences; I'll go ahead add them to the WikiGryphons article and may the WikiPlatypi's if that's all right with you.--Twilight Helryx (talk) 23:54, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Natural History section?

[edit]

Shouldn't an article about such an important species include a Natural History section, perhaps with such details as that Wikiplatypi carry a spur on each hind foot, and that in 50% of individuals the spur can deliver venom (but perhaps they don't use them), and that the diet of the wikiplatypi is known to include annelid worms, insect larvae, and crustacea? Userbox flair

[edit]

I think all Wikifauna should wear multiple pieces of flair. I'm not going to tell them that they HAVE to wear 20 pieces of flair, but .... at Wikipedia, we do encourage the presentation of at least 20 pieces of flair. If you want to.

I was wondering if someone can make an expanded textual userbox for WikiPlatipi like this one here: "This user is a WikiGryphon, guardian of treasures; protector from evil, witchcraft and secret slander." Thank you. — Smuckola (Email) (Talk) 05:26, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Plural

[edit]

It says the WikiPlatypus insists on pluralizing as WikiPlatypi and not *WikiPlatypuses, but what about WikiPlatypodes following the original Greek? Wilh3lmTalk 15:21, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That line annoys me perhaps more than anything else I've ever read on Wikipedia. You don't speak for us all, WikiFauna writers. WP Ludicer (talk) 13:24, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
