Selecting an article

[edit]

From when you were reviewing articles, did you find one that you had any particular interest in working on this semester? Of the two I reviewed, I think that viral transformation would be a very interesting topic. Polysomy could also be interesting because of the vast number of examples. I am open to working on any of the articles or a different one from the list. Let me know what you think. Richarnj (talk) 16:21, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nicole,I was looking through the list of articles and I had viral transformation on my preferred list. I think it is a great topic to write an article about. If you agree to it, we can start compiling a list of articles that we can use to start writing a draft. What do you think?CarpeDiem90 (talk) 18:47, 26 February 2014 (UTC) CarpeDiem90 (talk) 17:59, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. I can claim the article for us on the class page. Next we will need to write our rationale summary for why we chose this article. Richarnj (talk) 18:52, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have started an initial rationale at the top of our group page. Let me know what you think and feel free to add or change anything I have written. We still need to at least double its content. Richarnj (talk) 17:19, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nicole! Sorry about that. My internet has been on and off all weekend, due to the snowstorm. I have looked through your summary statement, and I will touch up and add the final content right now. Thanks for starting this! CarpeDiem90 (talk) 23:59, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! So I just completed the initial assessment, so please look it over and let me know if any additional information needs to be included, as well as any edits/comments. Thanks! Excited to work on this article. CarpeDiem90 (talk) 00:08, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Starting on our article

[edit]

Hi! The unit 7 assignment is to create an outline of our article on one of our sandbox pages. I have started a very basic one on my sandbox page you should feel free to add to. We also need to discuss here what we think is important which will then be added to the outline and the article's talk page. I think some of the initial important information would be a basic summary of the concept which would likely be present in the lead section. We also should probably have a section that outlines the process of how viral transformation occurs. This process could be aided with figures or images. Let me know what you think. Richarnj (talk) 12:52, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great I will look into your sandbox page to see what you have outlined so far. Here are a few things we should add to our outline:1. Introduction - in simple words, WHAT is Viral Transformation. 2. Main Section: a) Viral transformation (how are viruses inactivated to become vectors in preparation of transforming other cells) b) How the actual virus transforms the other cells/mechanism of transformation (what changes take place - physiologically, biochemically, genomically etc.) c) Types of assays that Viral transformation is used in 3. Further applications - how can we use this in the biotechnology field? (Ie. think about personalized medicine, tumor reduction, delivery of drugs to individual cells etc.) What do you think? CarpeDiem90 (talk) 03:05, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think this looks like a great start. I will begin adding your suggestions to the outline on my sandbox page, and maybe trying to look for some properly licensed images. Richarnj (talk) 12:37, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect sounds good! I'm going to continue to add more resources. CarpeDiem90 (talk) 18:42, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Any idea why the references on your sandbox page keeps renumbering itself to #1? If you know how to fix that, please do so. Thank you! CarpeDiem90 (talk) 19:01, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure, but I can try to fix it. I have also had a lot of trouble trying to find suitable licensed images to illustrate our topic, so for now I am going to start adding improvement suggestions to the viral transformation talk page. My current ideas for the improvement suggestions are to add the sections you suggested. I also believe it would be helpful to explain the process of viral transformation not only in words but also through images or diagrams. This could illustrate the concepts to those who do not fully understand the technical biological terminology. Let me know if you have any suggestions for finding images or if there is something else I should do. Richarnj (talk) 23:53, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unit 8

[edit]

Hey, I found a great article that gives an overview of our topic, http://www.mcb.uct.ac.za/cann/335/Trans1.html. I'm trying to add basic information to the wiki page tonight using that article. Then tomorrow I can try to add detail using some of our pubmed sources. Feel free to add or change anything that I am starting tonight. Richarnj (talk) 01:07, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If I read correctly our progress report is supposed to be a very high level of what was done on our article page with a maximum of 5 bullets. Specific sections and contributions do not need to be highlighted unless it goes beyond just adding sourced text to the article. Richarnj (talk) 22:23, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
