Questions re blurb
[edit]Hi Schrocat, just checking a few things...
- born 1888–1892 - article has first possible year as 1887
- I've tweaked it back to the sources, which say '88 - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- does this blurb link to [[regurgitation (digestion)]] instead of [[professional regurgitation|controlled regurgitation]], per article, on purpose?
- The blurb was lifted from the first blurb and then reworked a little, so that's where the link came from. I suspect the article (and some of the others) was not present at the time. Now linked - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Water spouting appears twice.
- Is that a problem? We list all the parts of his act up front, then highlight the one he was best known for. - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- And, is "water spouting" in those quotes rather than linked to Water spouting intentional?
- As above (and now linked) - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Re being a human flamethrower - article has "Ali became a "human flamethrower", spewing the accelerant in a long stream over the sacrificial prop, setting it ablaze." so when the kero was expelled from his mouth it was alight? Is that different to Fire breathing (circus act)?
- I've swallowed fire once, but not done the reverse, so I have no idea on this! - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Sorry so many questions. These older FAs, whose authors aren't around to help clarify, are often trickier. JennyOz (talk) 01:08, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi JennyOz, Thanks for your work on this (again!) I've done a few tweaks, but I can't help with the final question - that's out of my area of knowledge, and I don't have any sources on this, so I don't know if he was just fire-breathing, or whether there was a twist to it. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 07:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for all that SchroCat,
- There's still an 1887 in article (at first line of Background) but its ref is Daily Express which WP:RSP has as "generally unreliable" (though maybe it was less tabloidy in 1937?). Whatever you reckon should/should not be done is fine.
- I've changed the blurb's redirect re Umbriel. (I also changed it on Katy Perry's (26 Oct) blurb and asked for an admin on Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/October 2024 to do same for (25 Oct) tomorrow's protected Fusō-class battleships - seemed silly to ask you to ask them so I saved the middleman.
- (Bet you'll be glad when October's over!) JennyOz (talk) 09:58, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the changes to the other blurbs - I've been advising the admin in question about the poor practice in changing an article title while it's the TFA. I don't think they realised the knock-on effects and issues it would cause. I've taken out the Express reference. It's always been a slightly dubious paper, and I'll go with the cautious approach in not having one of the first references in a MP article being to something on the RSN list. (I'm actually sort of enjoying it, surprisingly!) Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 10:50, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Actually, seeing how aggressive and inflexible some can be when faced with a reasonable request for someone to take care, some of the enjoyment dissipates! Let's hope such attitudes are not a regular occurrence!) - SchroCat (talk) 14:55, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
