When there are unsaved replies...

[edit]

...on a hatted conversation (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Is nonce an appropriate edit descriptor?), opening the page (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard) keeps auto-scrolling you down to the section but there is no way to recover or reject the changes. Clearing the cache didn't help. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:34, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing subscriptions

[edit]

Is it possible to call up a list of the talk page sections I'm subscribed to so I can unsubscribe from ones I no longer want to be notified about? KaraLG84 (talk) 16:37, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Special:TopicSubscriptions, as (sort of) explained on this page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:28, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Automatically subscribe to topics that I create

[edit]

Is it possible to automatically subscribe to any talk page topic I create, without having to click on [subscribe]? AmethystZhou (talk) 07:41, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AmethystZhou Yes, you can enable this option in Preferences → Editing → Discussion pages → Automatically subscribe to topics. Matma Rex talk 09:59, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately that's coupled with automatically subscribing to topics you comment on. I want to subscribe to every topic I start, but only a few of those I comment on. Automatically subscribing to replies

[edit]

I'm relieved to find it's possible to subscribe in order to receive replies on Talk pages, but...

  • I'm surprised this isn't the default
  • There's an 'Add this page to your watchlist' tickbox when adding a reply, but no 'get notified of replies'
  • The settting to turn this on automatically is found under 'Editing' settings, rather than 'Notifications' - I was expecting to find it under 'Notify me about these events' if it was possible at all, and it was only because I asked for help on the Wikipedia Discord and then clicked through to this Talk page that I was able to find it at all!

Regarding your first point, it is enabled by default for new users (registered on or after 2023-08-18) [1] T294398. When developing the feature, we were concerned that senior users would be unhappy to receive possibly hundreds of notifications per day. Matma Rex talk 14:17, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's great that it it's turned on by default for new users! Thanks for that.
Can you see where I'm coming from by saying that it should be a Notification setting, not an Editing one? Oolong (talk) 14:43, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I see what you mean. Matma Rex talk 18:43, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there still a 5000 limit? Doug Weller talk 14:47, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you mean the limit on the number of your subscriptions – no, it was removed here: T294881. Matma Rex talk 18:44, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
