When there are unsaved replies...

...on a hatted conversation (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Is nonce an appropriate edit descriptor?), opening the page (Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard) keeps auto-scrolling you down to the section but there is no way to recover or reject the changes. Managing subscriptions

Automatically subscribe to topics that I create

Unfortunately that's coupled with automatically subscribing to topics you comment on. I want to subscribe to every topic I start, but only a few of those I comment on. Automatically subscribing to replies

I'm relieved to find it's possible to subscribe in order to receive replies on Talk pages, but...

I'm surprised this isn't the default
There's an 'Add this page to your watchlist' tickbox when adding a reply, but no 'get notified of replies'
The settting to turn this on automatically is found under 'Editing' settings, rather than 'Notifications' - I was expecting to find it under 'Notify me about these events' if it was possible at all, and it was only because I asked for help on the Wikipedia Discord and then clicked through to this Talk page that I was able to find it at all!

Regarding your first point, it is enabled by default for new users (registered on or after 2023-08-18) [1] T294398. When developing the feature, we were concerned that senior users would be unhappy to receive possibly hundreds of notifications per day. Matma Rex talk 14:17, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
