Wikipedia talk:Requests for feedback/Introduction
I suggest moving the Instructions section down below the two "For other..." sections. My rationale is that we want people who are at the wrong page to be directed away as soon as possible, while people who know they're at the right page will read past those two and will come to the instructions quickly enough. This kind of layout is used at Wikipedia:Help desk. — Saxifrage ✎ 19:58, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good idea, I've implemented your suggestion. -- Tangotango 04:58, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Hildanknight's original introduction (currently visible on the WP:RFF page) mentions the {{helpme}} template and the New user log as possible venues for asking questions. I removed the two because I thought the intro would become too long. What do other people think? -- Tangotango 14:16, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
To clarify: should these lines, or a suitable rephrasing of them, appear under the "For other questions" section?
- New editors can introduce themselves at the New user log
- For other types of questions, edit your talk page, entering {{helpme}} followed by your question (on a new line) at the end, and saving the page.
Personally, I'm inclined to include the latter. Not sure about the former, though. Basically we're trying to disambiguate between pages - is there any chance that a user will try and use RFF as a means to introduce themselves? -- Tangotango 14:19, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think we need the bit about introductions for the same reason you give. The second is less clear. I would argue against including it because it is mentioned in most of the {{welcome}} template variations and is probably mentioned sooner at some more relevant pages. Further, anyone looking for general help will be shunted off to more appropriate pages and will likely find answers there, or failing that will find the {{helpme}} convention there. — Saxifrage ✎ 00:53, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- I think I agree with you. We already have three page-based resources that newcomers can use (the help desk, newcomer's page and the village pump), and they are (at present) much easier to find than RFF. Why don't we put the current proposal version (without the two bullets) up on the main RFF page, and see if people confuse it for a help page? We can decide then what to do. -- Tangotango 08:35, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
