Radio Wikipedia
This is my radio show, however, I am looking for 10 second sound files, commenting on Wikipedia. If you could get me one done in the next 10 mins (little time, i know!), I can have it in today's broadcast. StewieGriffin! • Talk 15:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've got a short clip (ad for WP VG) but still trying to encode it to .ogg. Might not have it in for your press deadline =). xenocidic (talk) 15:20, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter what format. It could even be a video on youtube. Anything, but quick. I want to broadcast ASAP. StewieGriffin! • Talk 15:21, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Here you go Image:RADWPVGAD.ogg. Thanks! xenocidic (talk) 15:32, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

RWP: Issue 4
There you go... It's got your comment in.
- Great show, might I suggest starting to report how many new articles since the last broadcast, rather than how many articles? (i.e. "Since last broadcast, over 7500 new articles have been added to Wikipedia's nearly 2.4 million articles.) xenocidic (talk) 16:06, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Extended Show
I am thinking of an extended show. Would you be interested in a minute slot to talk about Wikipedia (not news; as that's my job)? StewieGriffin! • Talk 16:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hrm, if I can figure out what to talk about, I'll try to have something to you by the end of day, but I might not come up with anything particularly interesting. =) xenocidic (talk) 16:10, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Talk about a WikiProject, news on other projects and languages etc... I don't need anything until 5PM tomorrow. StewieGriffin! • Talk 16:14, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- What about if I gave an analysis of the FritzpollBot discusion/debate?
P.S. It might be a good idea if you refactored everything from your talk page about Radio Wikipedia over to WT:RADWP, or at the very least start discussing it there, for centralization purposes.(done,at least the bits from my talk page) xenocidic (talk) 16:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)- Yeah. I don't like the idea. If you prepare a maximum of 1 minute discussion by 5PM, it'll get in tomorrow's show. StewieGriffin! • Talk 16:34, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I mean about FritzpollBot, not the idea of you broadcasting on my radio show. StewieGriffin! • Talk 17:03, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, don't worry - I figured that's what you meant =). xenocidic (talk) 17:31, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Issue 5
Here is my submission for issue 5, Image:RADWP-Fritzpollbot.ogg. xenocidic (talk) 18:35, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good show, but when you re-record my submission, are you playing it through the browser? Because it tends to skip a bit. You consider consider downloading the file and playing it with a media player instead. xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 23:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Scripts
Have you ever considered scripting the show? Of the couple of episodes I've listened to, it's just rambling it sounds like. If you sat down and scripted what you wanted to say, it would be organized and you'd know what you'd want to say. Metros (talk) 19:58, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have to agree here. What you will want to do is (1) figure out what topics you want to cover, (2) a general idea of what you want to say, and (3) write down a "script" of exactly what you are going to say. Then, fire up the 'ol mic and start making Wikipedia broadcasting history! Thingg⊕⊗ 23:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you scripted it, you could also publish the script for subscribers who are deaf, have no speakers, or are at work. Bob the Wikipedian (talk) 20:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Bulletin board
I've removed the huge template from the bottom of the WP:CBB. Please either refine and bump-up-the-list the sentence that already exists in the "Notices" section, or redesign the template so that it fits under the current podcast templates. Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 20:36, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I made Media:Spotlight.ogg. It's not very good, the microphone was really fuzzy and it made my voice sound weird but it's there...... Dendodge .. TalkHelp 19:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just FYI you should upload these to the Commons, and you can also add Category:Radio Wikipedia and Category:Ogg files. xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 12:49, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Episode 6
Depending on your broadcast time, I probably won't have anything for you today. Best of luck! xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 12:46, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Recording
I think this is a brilliant idea but you really need to slow down when your speaking, have more clarity and not be so close to your microphone as there is a lot of breathing. Hope this helps. ŠeDDøΛ talk 18:14, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- I second ŠeDDøΛ's thoughts. However, a great concept! Mspraveen (talk) 08:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Project awareness
I noticed that you (StewieGriffin!) were asking for ideas on projects to feature on your show? Perhaps SSP would be a good topic. Very few admins patrol it, and greater awareness would help that area become less backlogged? An episode like this would show your dedication to dealing with sockpuppetry. Regards, EJF (talk) 19:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Download links
Shouldn't the "download" links on the page link to, e.g., http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Radio_Wikipedia_Issue_1.ogg , rather than Image:Radio Wikipedia Issue 1.ogg? Or is direct linking like that discouraged (/breakable)? - dcljr (talk) 23:20, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

- This is not ownership, but as head, I deem this idea bad. One point: You don't have my permission, especially when we have a website in development. StewieGriffin! • Talk Sign Listen
- No-one needs your permission. The licences used on Commons explicitly state that they are in the public domain, so I grant anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, means exactly that. You cannot forbid the use of it anywhere. Woody (talk) 00:17, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

- For One this is a childish poll. Two, everyone already thinks this a good idea except fot you. Next, you dont own RW, you founded it, so even if this poll goes against publishing it, we can do what ever we want per public domain. Either way, you'll find it on iTunes.Gears Of War 15:24, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- I can upload them regardless of whether this poll decides to upload them or not. See Free content, which all Wikipedia content (excluding those materials narrowly defined at Wikipedia:Fair use) falls under. Daniel (talk) 15:25, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Guys, I'm afraid you can't just upload stuff to iTunes. If you're releasing it as a podcast, you need to find somewhere online to host it, which is - to be perfectly honest - probably more trouble than it's worth... Alex Muller 19:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Trademark concern
I think anyone considering putting this on iTunes or hosting externally on any other website should first talk to people at the Wikimedia Foundation about issues with using the name Wikipedia.--BirgitteSB 21:37, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- We are already aware of this. On iTunes, it is not name Radio Wikipedia, it is named Red Thunder Media. Gears of War Go 'Skins! 00:50, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Why does it sound like this?
I tried listening to the one on the main page. The speaking has some weird buzzing echoing sound. I picked another one, and it was the same. It's only in one channel - the other side has normal sound. Was this done on purpose? If this is about spoken word and not music, I probably wouldn't even bother mixing it in stereo, much less adding bizarre effects. Friday (talk) 16:23, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's the microphones they're using. I'm actually amazed at the broadcast quality compared to the microphone quality. The broadcast quality is good but the last issue I tried to listen to I couldn't even understand what in the world they were saying with all that background noise during the last part. --Eric (mailbox) 00:41, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I figured it out. The player used here doesn't work properly on my system (Mac with Firefox 3), apparently. I downloaded a standalone player and the terrible buzzing sound went away. Friday (talk) 18:22, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
