What about intellectual property rights? If I contribute to a page based on a book I have read, do I need permission from the author? Or is it like writing a high school paper: just don't plagiarize?

How is Wikipedia financed?

I understand that Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia financed by Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit, but how do you keep it up and running? There are no ads, the people editing it are not paid employees, but yet you have reliable info. How does that work? Where do you get your financing from? just non-profit donations? --Anon

Point of View or No Point of View?

The Overview of "Frequently Asked Questions" says: "You are encouraged to help by correcting articles and passing on your own point of view." I thought that authors were supposed to create authors that were NPOV (no point of view) to the greatest extent possible.Sam* 21:11, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

How did that get in there

I removed the following text from this FAQ just a moment ago:

"...and the goal of most Wikipedians is to ensure that democracy, (albeit leavened with a little anarchy), remains the supreme power on Wikipedia...."

Not sure why it was there. remember that wikipedia is not an experiment in democracy, and also that Wikipedia is not an experiment in anarchy. (see WP:NOT). Michael Billington (talk • contribs) 06:48, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
