Translation of official foreign name as infobox header

I see this project page says "The same name as in the title should be used consistently throughout the article, unless there is a widely accepted historic English name for a specific historical context." but I am unclear as to the extent to which this should apply to the country infobox header (where the parameter is named "conventional_long_name"). I was brought here by a recent edit to German Empire, changing the infobox header to "German Realm", a suggested translation of the "official" German name "Deutsches Reich". I presume WP:COMMONNAME does not apply here, since the infobox header is meant to be the long name (e.g. "Federal Republic of Germany") rather than the common name (e.g. "Germany"). I am not sure where this should be discussed but it looks like something of wider interest that does not just affect one article. I don't know if there's a guideline, but it is a de facto thing that the infobox title has the official name, providing a good contrast with the title, which would be the common name. CMD (talk) 18:27, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
