Wikipedia talk:Most visited articles

I assume these statistics are correct, but I am amazed at how low the numbers are! Wikipedia gets so much traffic that it is amazing that very few articles have been viewed more than 10,000 times. Of course, this cannot account for non-Wikimedia sites that use Wikipedia content (or can it?). ike9898 15:52, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

This list is wildly wrong. Wikipedia gets 12.8 million unique users a month in the U.S. alone according to an article in last weeks signpost and the total number of hits on all wikimedia projects is hundreds of millions a day. The main page must be visited hundreds of millions of times a month, not 1.1 millions times in total. There used to be a more credible list linked from the main stats page, but it isn't working now. Does anyone really believe the list of French people gets more hits than France? Or that sorting algorithm gets more than Adolf Hitler. Or that Elvish languages gets at least two and half times as many as London, which isn't on the list. Nearly 20,000 articles link to "London", but if this list is correct, only a quarter of the people who linked to it can have looked at it even once each, and that leaves no views for anyone else. Call for updating list

I agree with all the comments above. Unfortunately I don't have the technical expertise to update the number of hits but I'll try and get in contact with someone who does. Given the amount of work that is being done to improve the wikipedia, an up-to-date list of most popular articles is critical in directing resources to where they're most neededTom 18:10, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I made the list from data I found at User:Dcoetzee/List of Wikipedia articles with at least 1000 hits. I do not have access to Wikimedia servers, and so cannot collect any updated data. One of the developers will have to make a change to enable data collection. I think we used to do this but it was turned off for performance reasons, and because the Wikimedia server farm was getting increasingly complicated. I encourage people to advocate for the collection of usage statistics; I think they would be very useful. There may already be an effort underway to do that; I haven't been keeping up with recent developments. Developers may be found on the wikitech-l mailing list and on Wikipedia:IRC channels. You may also file enhancement requests in Bugzilla, but these tend to be neglected for long periods of time unless a developer takes interest. There are also privacy concerns which would need to be addressed when this request is implemented. -- Beland 20:54, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Possible to get raw hit counts?

Are hit counts available somewhere for every page? I've created a few articles and I'm not sure if they would have 1000 hits, but I'd like to know if I can find out how many they have had. --69.255.16.173 09:09, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
