Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Calgary

Purpose?

Hi,

I live in Calgary, and am a new Wikipedian, but I hope that a quick perusal of my contributions shows that my intentions are pure and noble.

I would be interested in attending one of these meetups, but I'm curious as to what would happen at one. Is the purpose just to meet other Wikipedians and perhaps become friends? That does not seem to have anything to do with Wikipedia. Do these meetups have something to do with improving Wikipedia?

Hopefully someone can clarify this for me. Until I know the purpose of the meetup, I will refrain from making my opinions known in the location and date/time polls on the project page.

The purpose is really up to whoever shows up. It can be just a casual chat about Wikipedia and whatever else folks are interested in. It can be a discussion of Wikipedia issues. Maybe discussion of specific projects on WP. Whatever. If you have suggestions, let's hear them. —GrantNeufeld 14:20, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
