Wikipedia talk:Gmail group
I think it would be nice to move this into the Wikipedia: space, and advertise it to more people. Majorly (talk) 17:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Cool. I'll move it to Wikipedia:Gmail group. If we would like to advertise it, even just linking to it or transcluding it on your userpage would help. I've added it into my sig, that's another option. Justin(Gmail?)(u) 17:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Should we suggest adding email?
[edit]It makes it a lot simpler to send chat invites when you have someone's email address, maybe we should add something suggesting adding your address. Justin(Gmail?)(u) 17:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Some might prefer not to put it onwiki and imo a simple handshake procedure like sending one mail back and forth is not a generally bad idea. Dorftrottel (talk) 21:35, March 11, 2008
- At the moment everyone has their email listed, but yeah, some might not want to. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 22:31, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- Right, I'm sure that some don't want to, but sending chat invites is much easier. Maybe wording it like "you are not required to add your email address, but sending chat invitations are easier when others know your address." Of course, an alternative would be inviting others yourself. Justin(Gmail?)(u) 22:42, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
- POV! ...ahem... how about avoiding peer pressure and simply providing the arguments of all sides? Something along the lines of "While some may understandably prefer not to display their email address onwiki (even though it's spam secure), others appreciate the mutual convenience of being directly available for a chat invitation without first having to exchange a "handshake" email." Thoughts? Dorftrottel (criticise) 19:38, March 12, 2008

AIM
[edit]I just logged into gmail, and found that AIM is now supported through Gmail Chat. I don't know how this works, I don't have AIM, but should we mention that you could also add your AIM screenname to the list? Justin(Gmail?)(u) 18:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- AIM is lame. OK, seriously, no reason not to. dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 23:13, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- AIM can be compared to IE, in certain regards. ;) · AndonicO Hail! 23:54, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, all comparisons aside, AIM is now, for all intents and purposes, an extension of GTalk. Maybe we should add a section for only AIM users. Gmail and AIM users stay where they are. Justin(Gmail?)(u) 01:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

XMPP?
[edit]Gtalk is technically XMPP, shouldn't we allow all XMPP people to put their address in? ffm 17:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is for those on gmail, you can't contact someone on Gtalk on any XMPP network. Justin(Gmail?)(u) 18:33, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Gee, I have been. I am pretty sure of you put your gmail credentials into a XMPP client it just works, it does for me. And I have other XMPP folks on my gmail chat. Gmail is just a XMPP client. (1 == 2)Until 14:27, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Not joining unless

receiving spam ever since putting up my email here
[edit]I wonder if anyone else has also been receiving a fair measure of spam since they first posted there email here? Dorftrottel (vandalise) 00:19, April 17, 2008
- I don't know if it's since I put it up here, but maybe I've always had a lot of spam. Majorly (talk) 00:24, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't gotten any more than usual since adding myself. I guess I am just lucky. :) Captain panda 01:13, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Alphabetical order?
[edit]This list is getting long... anyone for alphabetical order? · AndonicO Engage. 14:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
