Thoughts on Pilot2

[edit]

It's good to see consideration of making more images available: I can see that NT needs to be cautious about internal photography for security reasons, but officially-sanctioned images of specific objects, or of carefully-selected parts of interiors (such as a panel of Sizergh's inlaid room), would be a great asset to Wikipedia articles and would work towards the "For Everyone, For Ever" strategy by allowing a much wider range of people to enjoy sight of those objects than just those who can see them in person (constraints of geography, mobility, finance etc). Once in Commons and Wikipedia these images can be enjoyed / studied by anyone with internet access, worldwide.

The second aim, of training local staff and volunteers to contribute to Wikipedia, also seems a commendable project. Well done to all involved. PamD 11:46, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I just saw mention of this on the talk page of Martinevans123. I'm interested as, for example, I took a lot of photos at Chartwell recently. But I did that for articles here at Wikipedia but am not so interested in loading images into Commons.
There was a Literature Festival at Chartwell in September and it struck me that this would be a good occasion for an organised event. We should look out for more such events at NT properties.

Andrew Davidson - Andrew, re. Chartwell, I don’t know whether you were able to take pictures of the interior? If you were, the article would greatly benefit, particularly ones of the dining room and Churchill’s study. And I’d love to see a shot of his en-suite, but that’s more for my curiosity than for the article! All the best. KJP1 (talk) 15:11, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, the house was full when we went but that was ok as I was after pictures for Winston Churchill's pets and Winston Churchill as painter and so the grounds and studio were my priority. Andrew🐉(talk) 15:23, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Images at Commons

[edit]

Have left a few thoughts at the Commons Talkpage, [1]. KJP1 (talk) 10:45, 9 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much @KJP1 - this feedback is really useful. I don't think there will be a release of interior shots of Chartwell in this pilot, but the fact that this is something the community is very interested in will go into the evaluation of this pilot. I really appreciate the time you took for any the comments. Thanks so much Lajmmoore (talk) 09:46, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all. Absolutely understand this is a pilot, and NT will want to undertake a careful evaluation, before making any firm decisions. Just by way of context, and not wanting to frighten the horses!, you may not have read this, National Portrait Gallery and Wikimedia Foundation copyright dispute. Request

[edit]

Any chance of uploading something from the interior of Anglesey Abbey please? At the moment the article has pictures of the grounds and exterior but the interior section has nothing in the way of pictures. Southdevonian (talk) 20:32, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Southdevonian, thanks very much. I don't think we'll be able to any interior images as part of this pilot, but I will pass the request on as part of the evaluation. Thank you! Lajmmoore (talk) 09:39, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. What about an object? Southdevonian (talk) 10:05, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for not replying sooner - I wasn't able to squeeze an Anglesey Abbey object into the pilot - what I've done though is added the request to the evaluation. This all helps to demonstrate appetite to the NT, thank you! Lajmmoore (talk) 10:42, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
