Site notice

[edit]

I've just seen a site notice sending people to GLAM/BL/Royal rather than here. Could be redirected, but some officious admin might delete the redirect as cross namespace. The notice should be changed ... creating a redirect and protecting it seems overkill given this is three weeks off. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:44, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where? The WP Geonotice sends people here. Johnbod (talk) 20:51, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It links to GLAM/BL/Royal from sister projects (e.g. the watchlist on en.Wikisource). I've hopefully fixed the link in the geonotice, but have also created the cross-namespace redirect as a temporary measure. Mike Peel (talk) 19:26, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Johnbod (talk) 00:58, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Specialness" of this (for want of a better word)

[edit]

How unique is this tour going to be? It isn't clear from the text...

Also, not sure if the person who wrote that 6pm is suitable for "working stiffs" is a "working stiff" themselves, but I promise that that is still on the early side for most... But fortunately, I can make it. I may even have a shave. Egg Centric 19:09, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is a gallery tour of the exhibition, lasting up to an hour, and I imagine the usual one - no such such tours are in fact advertised on the exhibition website, but no doubt they are giving them to other groups. There is no "behind the scenes" element. The library closes at (just before) 8pm, so the time was to allow us to have a sort session afterwards. Johnbod (talk) 21:14, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I've actually misunderstood this a bit I think (it was suggested as a banner ad) - is this primarily for people involved in the wikiproject? Egg Centric 21:32, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is to encourage people to get involved, but no doubt not everyone will. Most people going have not been involved before. All editors are welcome to come, though if we are oversubscribed we may select on promises or track record. But I hope we will have 2 groups, so room for everyone. Johnbod (talk) 21:38, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To lay my cards out on the table - I enjoy going to talks, tours, and the like by experts. Doubly at present so as I'm moving from London in a month. But if you have to ration, don't feel bad about chucking me off the list - all I have to promise you is no blood, no toil, no tears and no sweat! Egg Centric 21:58, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting point?

Where are we going to meet up? Prioryman (talk) 08:54, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

military manuals

[edit]

Did anyone get the name of the military manuals?©Geni 04:48, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There were 3 copies of De Re Militari, cat #s 125-7, in English, French & Latin. They were Fitzwilliam Mus. MS MARLAY ADD 1, & BL Royal 20 B xi & 18 A xii, which will be on their database. Let me know if you need more. Johnbod (talk) 11:02, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Post-event comments

[edit]

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the day very much, even though I had to leave early. It was good to meet and talk to several editors I hadn't met before, and meet up again with some I'd met before. Did much get discussed afterwards and has there been any work on articles related to this? Carcharoth (talk) 03:00, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was good to meet you and the others too. There was some food, drink and gossip at the Euston Flyer afterwards. New articles resulting from this are listed at the project page. Andrew Davidson (talk) 08:23, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
