More than one topic?
Are we restricted to one topic only? In a way it'd be good in case someone stalls on the topic they picked, but if someone puts their name by three or four topics it might also block others who want work on one of those. Matthewedwards (talk · contribs · count · email) 00:34, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm still fine tuning the rules, but I think I do agree with you on that. There are two things that could be done. Either users can be allowed to switch topics; or a user can be allowed to pick a second topic once everyone has selected their first. Which do you prefer? -- Scorpion0422 00:38, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think if they switch topics, they have to remove themselves from it so someone else can pick it up. Matthewedwards (talk · contribs · count · email) 00:43, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Clarification
- To ensure fairness, a user is not allowed to pick a topic they are familiar with. Determining factors: if they are a member of a relating wikiproject or have worked on any lists previously from that topic.
Back in the olden time of Wikipedia, I made substantial edits to a lot of areas, just because there was nothing there. Does that mean that if I worked on some list (or on text that is now part of a list) I can't choose anything from the broad topics given here? As an example: I created the articles on most of the topics in Greek mythology, which is a topic I'm familiar with, I suppose. But then, I'm "familiar with" every topic on the list. Is somebody participating at FLC really totally unfamiliar with "languages and linguistics"? So, does having worked on some Greek mythology stubs a few years ago (which is millennia in Wiki-years) mean I couldn't work on, say, list of Catholic saints? They're both in the "Religion, Mysticism and Mythology" category. I work pretty much entirely in music, so if I wanted to work on a crossover list, like a list of Christian hymns or something, would that be disallowed? (would that even be a religion list or music list? or would that just be violating the spirit of the rules either way?)
Also are we barred from working on the chosen article before officially signing up for the category? Tuf-Kat (talk) 01:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- In response to your first comment, in that case I think you could work on any of the topics. My main concern was to make sure that a user couldn't work on a topic that they had previously had FLs promoted in. (for example, Gary King has worked on several FLs in the business category, but it would be unfair to others if he was able to work on a list of acquisitions, something he has had a lot of experience with)
- There's really nothing preventing you from starting work on something right now (although I would prefer that people waited).
- Hopefully, that answers your questions. -- Scorpion0422 02:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, that's kind of what I thought it meant, just didn't want to get disqualified on a technicality. Tuf-Kat (talk) 02:46, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Possible ties and reviewing
So, if the lists go up and we have two lists that each have a consensus to promote at the ten day mark, do they tie, or is there some sort of tiebreaker? Also, I'm guessing this is the case, but just to ask, the contestants shouldn't be reviewing the FLCs of other contestants, right? Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 04:38, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- I guess they would tie. Although I'll try and think of a tiebreaker. You can review others FLCs if you like. -- Scorpion0422 03:27, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Yet another question
We're not allowed to work on the lists until Thursday, correct? Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 03:23, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- That was yesterday, so you can get started whenever you like. However, you can't submit a list for an FLC until Sunday. -- Scorpion0422 03:27, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
