Ealdgyth: any interest in doing this blurb? There's no rush; it hasn't been scheduled at TFA yet. Gog and I are posting blurbs today for FACs promoted in 2017. - Dank (push to talk) 22:46, 10 January 2020 (UTC) (Also pinging the co-nominator, User:Renata3.) - Dank (push to talk) 22:49, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Ugh. I'm very much of two minds on running this as TFA. I didn't do DYK with it just to avoid going on the main page... Ealdgyth - Talk 23:14, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Jacob Gens (1903–1943) was the head of the government of the Vilnius Ghetto (pictured) during World War II. He joined the Lithuanian Army shortly after the independence of Lithuania, rising to the rank of captain while also securing a college degree in law and economics. When Germany invaded Lithuania, Gens headed the Jewish hospital in Vilnius before the formation of the ghetto in September 1941. He was appointed chief of the ghetto police force, and in July 1942 the Germans appointed him head of the ghetto Jewish government. While attempting to secure better conditions and to save some Jews, Gens and his policemen helped round up the Jews for deportation and execution in Ponary in October–December 1941 and helped liquidate several smaller ghettos from late 1942 to early 1943. He was shot and killed by the Gestapo shortly before most of the ghetto residents were sent to labor and extermination camps. (Full article...)
