Homeworld is a real-time strategy video game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Studios on September 28, 1999, for Microsoft Windows. The science fiction game follows exiles on a spacecraft-constructing mothership who aim to reclaim their ancient homeworld, encountering pirates, mercenaries, traders, and rebels along the way. The player's fleet carries over between levels, and can travel in a fully three-dimensional space. Alex Garden of Relic served as the game's director, and Luke Moloney was lead programmer. Metacritic lists Homeworld as the highest rated computer game of 1999 and the fourth-highest on any platform for the year, although critical opinions were divided on its plot and high difficulty. The game sold over 500,000 copies in its first six months, and received several awards and nominations for best strategy game of the year and best game of the year. Gearbox Software purchased the game rights in 2013 and released a remastered collection in 2015. (Full article...)
PresN (and anyone else interested): thoughts and edits are welcome. There's no rush; this hasn't been scheduled at TFA yet. This batch finishes up blurbs for FACs promoted in 2017. (Btw, I feel your pain: there was a lot I wanted to cover here, but just didn't have room.) - Dank (push to talk) 21:57, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
P.S. I haven't been paying attention to images for the 2017 blurbs, but video games are especially difficult so I poked around. My guess is it's going to come down to a choice between logos for Homeworld Remastered (visible, for instance, in the lower right corner of File:Homeworld Remastered gameplay.png), Relic, or Sierra ... unless someone can find some public domain concept art. - Dank (push to talk) 22:06, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
- Update: We can't use Roberta Williams (she had left the company at this point), but Ken Williams was still active with Sierra, and we've got images for him. - Dank (push to talk) 18:03, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
