Ghostbusters II is a 1989 American supernatural comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. Released to generally negative reviews, it is the sequel to the 1984 film Ghostbusters and the second film in the Ghostbusters franchise. In the film, set five years after the events of the first film, the Ghostbusters re-form to combat a new paranormal threat and save the world. The movie stars Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, in addition to Aykroyd and Ramis. As the sequel to the then-highest-grossing comedy film of all time, Ghostbusters II was expected to dominate the box office, but Columbia Pictures deemed it a failure. Its negative reception stalled the Ghostbusters franchise for decades, but it spawned video games, board games, comic books, music, toys, and haunted houses.
