TFA blurb review

[edit]
The Major Oak in Sherwood Forest

The Coterel gang was an armed group in the North Midlands that roamed across the English countryside in the late 1320s and early 1330s, a period of political upheaval and lawlessness. Despite repeated attempts by the crown to suppress James Coterel and his band, they committed murder, extortion and kidnapping across the Peak District. Basing themselves in Sherwood Forest (pictured), other wooded areas of north Nottinghamshire and the desolate peaks of Derbyshire, the Coterels frequently cooperated with other groups, including the Folville gang. As members of the gentry, Coterel and his immediate supporters were expected to assist the crown in the maintenance of law and order, rather than encourage its collapse, but most of the band received royal pardons following service abroad or in Scotland. Groups such as the Coterels may have inspired many of the stories woven around Robin Hood in the 15th century. (Full article...)

Just a suggested blurb ... thoughts and edits are welcome. - Dank (push to talk) 20:20, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed an excess of "and"s and commas. Feel free to revert if you don't agree. Eric Corbett 20:31, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Eric, I'll put those back in now that I swapped the image. - Dank (push to talk) 20:52, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So you think that your version is better than mine? I think you're wrong, but fine by me. Eric Corbett 20:58, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I'm sorry, I was correcting myself and edit-conflicted :) No, I meant I was restoring the work you had done ... it got lost when I changed the image. I agree with removing the comma. But on second thought, the "protection rackets" mentioned are covered by "extortion", if I'm reading the article correctly ... so that's not a problem any more for me. Does it work for you? Great work on the article review btw. - Dank (push to talk) 21:00, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It looks good to me now. Sorry for the confusion, but, well, you know. Eric Corbett 21:09, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake. Distracted by tendonitis today. - Dank (push to talk) 21:28, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Is the use of an image not used in the article itself a fast track to WP:ERRORS, d'you think...? ——SerialNumber54129 08:25, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, we've always done that, maybe once a month. The Major Oak is associated with the Robin Hood legend, though it doesn't make sense to say that in the blurb. Is there another image you like? I picked Nottingham Castle first, but the Coterils were apparently in the north of Nottinghamshire, so maybe the castle isn't appropriate. - Dank (push to talk) 12:03, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm tempted to get rid of the castle image from the article, as it's very tangential to the gang itself. An image of Sherwood is cool, although I think personally I'd go for a broader one (i.e., the tree might be synonymous wwith Robin Hood, but the gang is not). ——SerialNumber54129 14:33, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
File:Sherwoodglade.jpg maybe? - Dank (push to talk) 15:23, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
