Comment. Alt text done; thanks. Alt text is present (thanks), but it has some problems:
Several phrases contain details that cannot be verified by a non-expert who is looking only at the images, and need to be moved to the caption (or removed) as per WP:ALT#Verifiability. These phrases include "Carabane" (in "shoreline of Carabane", "view of Carabane", "house in Carabane"), "Casamance River", "from a motorized pirogue arriving from Elinkine", "saltwater" (in "saltwater streams"), "standard" (in "standard house"), "island" (in "edge of the island" and "stretching from the island"), "river" (in "river on the left" and "out over the river"), "pirogue" and "kapok" (in "pirogue made of a kapok trunk"), "Bee-eater", "mangrove" (in "perched among mangrove branches"), "Bottlenose" (in "Bottlenose Dolphins"), "carving" (3 times), "Casamance Company's first factory", "Casamance Company's second factory", "akonting", "kayendo", "oil palm", "palm-wine-harvesting",In fixing the above problems please bear in mind that alt text should not repeat the caption, but should talk only about visual aspects that the caption does not describe. Please see WP:ALT#Repetition. For example, a proper name should be in the caption and not in the alt text; see WP:ALT#Proper names. The sign is in French and does not say "Republic of Senegal: Oussouye Prefecture"; it says something in French. Please transcribe the French rather than translating it. (Any translation should be moved to the caption.) Please see WP:ALT#Text for more on this. The phrase "the name of the school, the date of its establishment, and a list of its sponsors" should be replaced by a (selective) quotation from the sign itself, as in the previous bullet. The alt text for the three maps should be rewritten to say what the maps tell a sighted reader, instead of focusing on irrelevant details such as a red dot. Please see WP:ALT#Maps for examples.

- I have made all the suggested changes to the alt text. Thank you for familiarizing me with WP:ALT. Neelix (talk) 16:26, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, the vast majority of the problems have been fixed and I struck them.
However, a few phrases were missed; can you please review the comments that are not crossed out? Also, three of the new alt text entries are too nondescript: can you please add some detail so that the visually impaired reader can get a visual feel? The problematic entries are "A large building" (twice), and "A house surrounded by trees". Thanks.Eubulides (talk) 19:11, 26 November 2009 (UTC)- I've revised the alts according to your advice. I hope I haven't missed anything; let me know if I have. I notice that you did not cross out the bullet about repetition; are there still alts which mirror the corresponding captions too closely? Neelix (talk) 20:15, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- No, that was just something to bear in mind while fixing the 1st bullet. Thanks for doing all that; the alt text looks good now and I've struck all the items. Eubulides (talk) 01:55, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
