I strongly agree that we need a more "professional" look, and I consider the Nuvola icons to be "cartoonish". However, I'd suggest that if we're just considering these 2 sets as the available options, then a mix of the two would be best - simply because the images used in some of the P_icons are ambiguous or non-obvious. Specifically, the Nuvola history icon seems clearer than the "man on horse" icon. Ideally, someone could find third/superior options for "art" and "history" and "reference". Those are my thoughts, at least. (And if updating, don't forget to update the other shared template: Portal:Contents/Types layout, at the same time.) -- Quiddity (talk) 20:41, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Agree that not all icons are perfectly suggestive of the topic, however overall P_icons are not less suggestive than the nuvola ones. Also important to note that in most or all cases these icons appear with text. I think the main decision is about the overall style. It is always possible to replace individual icons. I don't quite agree with that: symbols of past civilizations relate in similar way to present day cultures. On the other hand history is never culture-neutral. For graphic reasons I would prefer (e). Neverthless, as said before, I think the big step is changing the style altogether - individual icons can be improved afterwards. Elekhh (talk) 08:04, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

But b/c/d all represent "Western civilisation". Admittedly we are in the English Wikipedia, so it could make sense, but I would disagree. Option (e) seems more like a "culture" than "history" icon. Hence I'd recommend the hourglass. -- Quiddity (talk) 18:05, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

(a) for Reference. Any of the options for Art, (a/b/mona).
