Dynamic would be better
[edit]Ideally these would be dynamically generated instead of painstakingly created and maintained by people. It would also be more useful, since a location at the edge of a region won't get as useful information in its location category as one near the centre. But I guess we won't get dynamic without some proof of concept at least. Deco 10:22, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, automatic generation would be ideal. We would have to extend the
coor
templates a bit to include size and shape information for large regions, or maybe consistent use of the scale parameter is enough? One could then also try to modify the templates so that they automatically place pages in the appropriate location categories. AxelBoldt 15:02, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- The Mediawiki Gis extension might be able to do part of what you intend (see Meta:Gis_neighbors). On the toolserver, http://tools.wikimedia.de/~kolossos/ajax/place-search.php already uses some of the coor templates for the same. -- User:Docu
In Russian wiki, a special template assigns a category for latitude/longitude. E.g. Dublin is automatically placed into ru:Категория:53° с. ш. (53° North) --213.170.65.38 13:57, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
