Jake Orlowitz (User:Ocaasi), recipient of a Wikimedia Foundation Individual Engagement Grant, will speak at GMU on Tuesday, October 22nd about The Wikipedia Library, a new project he founded in 2012 for the purpose of connecting Wikipedia editors with the reliable information sources they need. When the latest and best scholarly research is only available to those with the money to buy access to it, society itself is impoverished; yet efforts to promote universal open access even to government-funded research have not yet prevailed. The Wikipedia Library provides several easy, legal ways for research libraries to partner with trusted, experienced Wikipedians for the purpose of ensuring that Internet information is good information.
