Wikipedia:Wikilinkitis

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikilinkitis refers to the process of putting more links around words than is really necessary.

Symptoms

[edit]

Symptoms of "Wikilinkitis" include:

  • Putting the brackets that are necessary for wikilinks around dates, numbers and names;
  • In extreme cases, putting the double brackets around definite articles, such as the, and pronouns, such as she, he or it.
  • Repeatedly putting double brackets around certain words.
  • Looking at Wikipedia regularly to check how many words are names of articles, so that you can put more of these in a single sentence to enable you to produce more wikilinks.
  • Not bothering if the double brackets which you have put around words result in a red link.

Remember, there is no prize for being able to put more wikilinks in an article. Wikilinks are a necessary part of Wikipedia, but it is possible to overdo it.
