In this second writing project, we explore the following questions:

  • How do we “do” research (finding, assessing, and writing with sources)?
  • How can we contribute to (online) research communities?
  • How can we shape our writing for specific (public) audiences?

We explore these questions through a Wikipedia assignment. Each of you will select a Wikipedia article that you will contribute to over the course of the project. We will familiarize ourselves with the norms, values, and practices of Wikipedia as a research community. You will research—using UVA’s library databases—your topic, find and evaluate appropriate secondary sources, and make substantive edits to an underdeveloped Wikipedia article. The project will culminate in a reflective essay.
