Where does a species occur? How many individuals exist? Are harvest limits appropriately set to meet management objectives? These are common real-world questions in wildlife science, but they require targeted monitoring, rigorous study designs, and field techniques to address. This course introduces students to the monitoring of wildlife for estimating species distribution, abundance, and resource use. The course will use lecture meetings to focus on the design and development of wildlife monitoring programs, while the lab meetings will focus on techniques used for sampling wildlife populations.
