Study of the biology of sex, with a focus on mammals. We will distinguish between sex and gender in human societies. Topics include the mechanisms of development, sexual differentiation, the development of secondary sex characteristics, and the influence of genes, hormones, and environment on sex differences in the brain and behavior. We will also explore the biology of homosexuality, intersexuality, and transsexuality, and the impact of social environment on sex differences and gender identity
