Students will select articles that are underdeveloped on Wikipedia and have significant coverage in reliable sources and will adhere to Wikipedia’s policies and norms for conduct, including completing training modules.
Purpose
Students will get the experience of editing, feeling of deadline and publication pressure and real-time editing process.
Learning Outcomes/Goals
The course learning outcomes pertaining to Wikipedia assignments are the following:
- Demonstrate mastery of grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence syntax.
- Verify sources of information thereby increasing information literacy and maintaining neutrality.
- Edit for accuracy.
- Edit copy for the online platform.
- Edit copy according to legal and ethical issues, specifically plagiarism.
- Edit copy for bias and assessing neutrality.
- Engage in formal communication process to share ideas publically
- Demonstrate proficient application of rules in The Associated Press Stylebook.
