This course provides a broad overview of the politics underlying US foreign policy. We focus on understanding the general historical trajectory of US foreign policy, as well as the social, political, and economic forces that shape foreign policy outcomes. We cover a wide range of specific topics, including the identification of key actors involved in foreign policymaking, the use of military force, diplomacy, the mechanics of the policymaking process, foreign aid, trade, monetary policy, human rights issues, and more.
