This course takes a new approach to the study of history and the humanities by exploring women’s creative contributions to the arts from ancient poetry to modern music. Reading, viewing, and listening will include literature, art, dance, and opera with a special focus on works by and about women. We will also study women’s place in local arts institutions; analyze and update existing articles about women in the arts in Wikipedia with a focus on highlighting the contributions of BIPOC women in the arts; and consider various other new ways to celebrate and support women’s many important past, present, and future artistic achievements.
