What are our rights and responsibilities in online environments? How does one leverage online tools and platforms for education and organizing? Who has power and how is power distributed in the various digital landscapes? Where is injustice enabled and emboldened by computational mechanisms?
In this course we will explore these questions from a lens of digital identity and online community. We will study internet history and diverse perspectives around online social networks while building digital literacies that enable self-expression and organizing on the web. In this course you will critically examine issues around accessibility, privacy, identity, health, and organizing as they relate to connected digital environments while working in the public on the internet as an undergraduate digital scholar. Students will gain familiarity and experience in internet based tools and leverage communicating digitally and publicly to create greater confidence with these formats and techniques in professional settings.
