This section of Special Topics in Digital Studies will explore the patterns of language use involved in the online spread of misinformation as well as the ways that people engage with this content. In order to do so, we will employ corpus linguistic methodology, using computational tools to annotate, analyze, and process digital texts related to misinformation, disinformation, and conspiracy theories. Throughout the semester, we will also discuss various text collection and planning strategies.

As the course is focused on the idea of public knowledge, students will engage in editing and adding to pages related to the field of corpus linguistics in order to help develop digital literacy and critical thinking skills.
