This course introduces students to the study of language and gender and covers a range of topics that center around the role of language in the construction of gendered identities. The goal of the course is to help students think critically about gender, language, and the relationship between the two in social practice. Throughout the semester, students will also be encouraged to add to the body of existing public knowledge on these topics by editing and updating associated Wikipedia pages, and will particularly be encouraged to think about gendered identities and social practice as related to Wikipedia pages for individual linguists working in the area of language and gender.
