This course is a higher division general education course. It is a general introduction to the study of language development and examines current issues and linguistic theories of language acquisition, including the study of language development as related to cognitive and cultural development, and the effects of sociolinguistic factors on language acquisition. Also explores bilingualism, early literacy, language development in the school years, and language development in special populations
