Official description: Instruction in designing effective print and digital technical documents, with particular emphasis on common genres, such as instructions, procedures, definitions, descriptions, specifications, reports, and manuals.
We focus on public-facing writing, community engagement, and features of technical writing. The current capstone assignment is to write an iFixit repair guide while working with iFixit's professional technical writers.
The two-week multimodal assignment for Wikipedia would be a great component of the class since images, video, etc. are prominent features of contemporary writing.
Students see value in writing for the real world.
