Major topics in synthetic inorganic chemistry are presented with a view to developing a broad knowledge of how to prepare compounds that will support or exhibit certain reactivities. The reactions will be studied in the s-, p-, d-, and f-blocks groupings to emphasize the important role of valence electrons and also will be studied as a function of reactivity to include oxidation, reduction, transmetallation, ligand addition, substitution, and removal, as well as metal-metal bond formation and cleavage. Case studies will be taken exclusively from literature sources, both traditional and modern.
