About the Event[edit]
The Bodleian Libraries are organising an editathon focused on the Rediscovering Rycote online resource. Rycote Park, near Thame in Oxfordshire, was the site of a mansion originally built in Tudor times for Sir Richard Fowler, Giles Heron or John, Baron Williams of Thame - which one is not known. It was almost completely demolished in June 1807 and all that remains today is part of the south-west tower. The Tudor mansion at Rycote was arguably the dominant country house in early modern Oxfordshire and played host to six English kings and queens, including Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The mansion archive was destroyed on a bonfire, but the Bodleian Library holds many manuscripts, letters, accounts, drawings and maps relating to Rycote. The Rediscovering Rycote website uses these archival resources to reconstruct the history of the house and its residents. We aim to use the Rediscovering Rycote resources improve coverage of people, events and other information related to Rycote. The day will include a short talk from the Rycote project archivist as well as a chance to view some original manuscripts related to the history of Rycote Park and the project. Come along to learn about how Wikipedia works and contribute a greater understanding of history! On the day[edit]
We will be based in a computer lab, so there is no need to bring your own laptop (though you are very welcome to do so; wifi will be available). Access: Lift access suitable for wheelchairs is available to all public areas, including the training room. A portable induction loop is available on request, and an infrared induction system is in place in the Training Room. Participants[edit]please add your name below
Trainers[edit](There will also be a morning session for 6th formers, so please can trainers indicate if they will be attending all day, just for Rycote, or just for the morning)
